Division C
Karvon (Germanic Horse Tribes with Dacian (Carpi) ally) defeated oscarius - (Roman 197-284 AD with Armenian ally) 49 -20 4-0.
The Roman flanks were potentially secured by large woods and the middle of the field was broken up by numerous patches of rough ground a few trees.
In this battle we left our allied foot at home and went with an all lancer force supported a few lighter horse and light foot. We initially deployed the light foot on both flanks to clear opposing lights and wear down heavier troops for our lancers to run down. Our lancers we deployed in four equal divisions in the center.
The Romans had some Armenian massed bow supported by some auxilia securing their right. Assorted legionaries were deployed in the center supported by some Armenian cataphracts and Roman horse. A few light troops were scattered across the front screening.
We initially threw our light foot forward in an attempt to draw the Romans forward and more towards clearer ground. Our lancers shuffled around a bit, probing for openings to push thru and flanks to exploit. On our left, taking the worst of the shooting vs the massed bow, we pulled our lights back to escape the hail of arrows and they and their supporting auxilia plus a couple of legionaries trundled after us into more open ground. On the right we managed to punch one block of lancers behind the Roman left, though we had to sacrifice a few in the process and tied up another block in a protracted running battle with units from the Roman center and left.
On the left we surged forward a couple of blocks to pin and flank the overly aggressive Roman foot chasing our light foot. They belated attempted to fallback, but couldn't outrun the lancers. Our block from our right swung around behind the Romans and came in on the rear of the Roman right shortly after the left blocks made their initial charge. The destruction of the Roman right broke their army.
Thanks for the game,
Karvon

Division D
Schweetness101 - Arab (Abbasid) 874-946 AD defeated MikeMarchant (Ghaznavid 962-1187 CE - Allies: Turkish): 40-16
The arab army had a favorable starting position on a low but wide plateau that could be defended with masses of cheap spears on the slope and massed archers shooting over. A lake also split the battle in two, with my left flank/mike's right being an infantry and massed archers melee where my veteran dailami foot could close quickly with the massed archers. Most of the battle though was an archer/horse archer ranged exchange over a line of spears. Mike started off very strong, easily scattering my light foot and light horse, but massed archer fire and a few lucky flanks broke some elephants that started a chain rout in my favor.
Here's a screenshot of the end game for the curious:

You can see I had a few units close to breaking and the battle could still have potentially gone either way, but I got a bit lucky and snagged a 26% disparity right as I hit the 40% threshold.
thanks for the game and gg Mike

Re: Early Middle Ages: winners post your results here . . .
Excellent defensive play by Schweetness, coupled with some rather poor rash play by me, contributed to the creation of a new lifeform - the pocupine/elephant. Needless to say, the elephants were not amused.Schweetness101 wrote: ↑Sun Oct 06, 2019 9:33 pm Division D
