Tough battle with a big swing right at the end.
Good fun. I was 28-8 up at one time but for every unit defeated 2 more took its place. Arabs = the ultimate giant wall of crap!

Okie has now withdrawn completely from the tournament leaving vacancies in Classical Antiquity, Late Antiquity, Early Middle Ages and Biblical. I will begin contacting reserves today and I hope to have the places filled again by the weekend. All results involving Okie, and matches currently in progress, are now Void and will be expunged from the records under Rule 6 of the Competition.

The vacancies have now been offered to the following players . . .

Classical Antiquity - SLancaster
Late Antiquity - Garokan
Early Middle Ages - grumpydaddy845
Biblical - Breogan

As with all these games of warbands vs pike armies under the latest rules release, comes down to are the warbands subject to double drops and who gets the most rallies from rout (between closely matched players) stochastic considerations with fat tails replacing skill.

Division C

oscarius (Rus) beat markwatson360 (Frankish) 62-46

Advantageous terrain and narrow frontage helped me to hold my left flank long enough for the rest of my forces to defeat their foes and come to their aid. Even so it was a gruelling drawn-out bloodbath between two similarly compiled forces. Amusingly a 15 point rabble that was able to single-handedly pin down Mark's own flanking force for about four turns (and inflict a surprising amount of casualties too) might have won me the watch. Great match thanks

Division A

Geffalrus (Antigonid) defeated harveylh (Syracuse with Carthaginian Allies) 43 to 12

Taking a page from the Morkin of Epirus strategy book, the Antigonids opted to bring maximum medium and light infantry to support their pike phalanx. Expecting the Syracusans to occupy the strong defensive terrain in their zone, the Antigonids were duly surprised when the large mass of Syracusan hoplites rolled forward on the attack with elephants and cavalry in support. Redeployed Thureos arrived just in time to prevent a massive outflanking of the pike phalanx as it engaged the hoplites frontally. While the Carthaginian cavalry did eventually make it to the open space behind the Antigonid formation, the hoplite holding force was undone by a series of poor cohesion rolls before any rear charges could be organized.

Good game to my opponent.

Division C

oscarius (Romans) beats DzonVejn (Sassanid Persians) 56 - 16

Right from the get-go things went poorly for the Persians who gambled upon an all cavalry and elephant force. The Roman massed bow (a mixture of imperial and Armenian found some nice rough ground to occupy) and alongside the artillery drowned the Persian cataphracts in fire. Their lighter cousins also managed to outshoot the Persian horse who either dispersed across the map and played little role or unwisely pursued the foot into the entrenched bowmen (and when then swiftly hacked down by supporting Roman infantry). By far the most serious threat proved to be the six units of Persian elephants who even the legionaries had a tough time dealing with and managed to score a few routs. However Roman numerical superiority meant that inevitably these elephants, lacking any support, ended up flanked

Thanks for the game, it was a short and sharp one where both terrain and army composition worked in my favour.
