Re: Tournament diary and news . . .
SLancaster will now replace Okie in Biblical Division B as well. He will be using the Corinthian 550-461 BC army.

Division D
rs2excelsior (Byzantines) beat Bluefin (Alan) 48-21
A map that wasn't particularly suited to the cavalry armies which met there, with the center dominated by a deep stream flanked by hills, the left a river and a marsh, and forests between the deployment area and the bit of open ground on the right flank. With a direct assault across the stream looking suicidal for either side, the Byzantine infantry and a force of Alan lancers spent most of the battle eyeing each other from the opposite hills, while the Byzantine horse archers pressed up the marsh on the left flank backed by a small group of lancers, and the main body of Byzantine heavy cavalry made a sweeping right movement through the forest. Initial clashes took place on the left, where the Alans looked to have the upper hand at first. The Byzantine horsemen took casualties, but the lancers managed to get engaged and that area bogged down into a bloody melee. On the right flank, the main force of Byzantine lancers managed to force a crossing against the Alan horse archers sent to stop them, despite the stream, and after a brief pursuit re-formed to threaten the Alan center. A portion of the Byzantine infantry committed itself to the battle on the left, helping to stabilize the situation there, and eventually Alan resistance on that flank began to falter as well. As Byzantine lancers wheeled to strike the Alan center, the main body of infantry crossed the stream, pinning them between the two forces. With the Byzantines getting ready to mop up the last of the resistance on their left flank and the remaining Alan forces caught between a hammer and an anvil, the nomads took to flight.
Good game, Bluefin, thoroughly enjoyable. If you'd had better luck in that scrap by the river and you might've been the one making this report.

Division B
devoncop (Byzantine 988AD with Georgian Allies) beat Nijis (Byzantine 963AD) ....... 55-28
In a time travelling civil war a tough match was won as a result of successful skirmish and Cavalry actions on the later Byzantine left allowing a partial roll up of the earlier Byzantine line.
A game that could easily have gone the other way.
Thanks to my opponent.

I have all the scores the wrong way. It's because I use the "old fashioned" way.
I just think it looks better in this kind of charts but maybe I should listen with Pete how he likes it...
