Division A
SnuggleBunnies (Anglo Saxon 600-870 with Welsh allies) defeats Sennacherib (Andalusian 756-1049) 60-55
The Andalusians shifted their entire army to a hill on their right. The only flat approach was 4 "tiles" wide, ZoC locked by Lancers and Veteran Spearmen, and covered by their greatly superior numbers of skirmishers. The Anglo Saxon army, lacking heavy Lances, with little missile support, and a great hill to march up, nevertheless had the advantage of... lots and lots of dudes with pointy sticks. Said dudes with pointy sticks (barely) carried the day. By the end of the battle, the Anglo Saxon army occupied the hill, while the remaining Andalusian troops occupied the former position of the Saxon right wing.

Re: Themed Event: winners post your results here . . .
Themed Event round-up
There are some very interesting situations at the group stage of the Themed Event . . .
In Group A after 4 of the 6 matches have been completed, Nijis has 8 points from 2 matches, batesmotel 7 points from 4 matches and IMC 1 point from 2 matches. The two remaining matches involve Nijis and IMC. IMC has to win both matches to prevent Nijis from winning the group. batesmotel cannot now qualify for the semi-final.
In Group B all matches are completed with both Snugglebunnies and phoyle3290 finishing on 12 points with 3 wins apiece. Mike Marchant is eliminated. To determine which player proceeds to the semi-final we need to look at Rule 5 which states, "In the Themed Event, however, where it is necessary to separate players in the final tables at the group stage to decide who progresses to the knock-out phase, the points aggregate from the matches between the players with the same number of wins will be used to decide the final places in the group table. So if we look at the 2 matches between phoyle3290 and Snugglebunnies - phoyle3290 won one match by 25 points (58-33) while Snugglebunnies won the other by 34 points (49-15). So Snugglebunnies qualifies for the semi-final on the tie-breaker 34-25.
In Group C there is an incredibly close situation with just the one match between Triarii and nyczar to be completed. If Triarii wins that match then all three players will end up on 8 points and we will have to use aggregate scoring (Rule 5) here as well. However, if nyczar avoids defeat then he will qualify for the semi-final. At the moment Cunningcairn's aggregate score after his 4 matches is +7, while nyczar's is +37 after 3 matches and Triarii's is -44 after 3 matches. So it seems very difficult for Triarii to qualify himself unless he gets a really huge win (by 52 points or more) against nyczar - but if he beats nyczar by 31 points or more then Cunningcairn will qualify for the semi-final.
In Group D hidde has one foot in the semi-final already after winning his first 3 matches to accumulate 12 points. paulmcneil is already eliminated with 0 points from 2 matches and iandavidsmith needs to beat hidde in the second of their matches by more than the 42-0 scoreline he lost by in the first match to stay in the competition. If he did manage to do that then he would still need to beat paulmcneil in both of their matches together to qualify for the semi-final.
The semi-final line up will see the winner of Group 1 play the winner of Group 3 and the winner of Group 2 will play the winner of Group 4.

Triarii (Spanish & Andalusian) beats CheAhn (Arab) 61-43
A truly epic and memorable struggle - Spanish had the good fortune to have their first map reasonably uncluttered by poor terrain and a rapid left hook eventually unpicked the stretched muslim spearmen's line while the few Spanish spears held on on a fortunate hill. A great lesson in shifting spearmen and supporting archers about from Cheahn though but.
Thanks for a great game.
