Division B
Challenge (Lydian) defeated gamercb ( Achaemenid Persian) 45-17
A third of the battlefield was cut-off by a river, meaning the persians were not able to flank the hoplite battle line with their greater number of cavalry. The Lydian hoplites were able to bring the Persian bowmen to melee without much disruption and once that happened, it was mostly inevitable.
Thanks for the game Colin. You had some hard cohesion checks against you....

Division C
fikabo (Polish with Vikings) defeated sunnyboy's Scots 45:19
Very interesting map and game.
On my site in centre was hill with difficult slope but full rough. On my left was two small hills.
I setup unit with massed archers on hill and strong both wing to encircle Pictish which I had thought will try to get hill.
Scots had other plan (to take left hills).
I had to rotate whole army. Problem was my right wing had long way to go (they have to omit big hill).
Battle had started long before my right wing was ready but rest my units has good positions on end of big hill.
The race has begun: will my right wing come before my center of the front collapse (it has been attacked by the best Scots units and many Picts were still approaching)?
Fortunately for me, the center has started collapse exactly when my right wing start attack and help centre.
If the center lasted 2 turns less I would lose.
Thanks for very interesting game Sunnyboy!

Division B
Nijis (Byzantines 494-550) defeats GeneralShapur (Kingdom of Soissons) 65 to 31.
Byzantines led with their cavalry on the left and refused their infantry-heavy right flank. The Gallo-Romans eventually overwhelmed the Byzantine right, but the Byzantines had enough time to exploit their early local victory and do significant damage, giving them the edge in the bloody endgame.

Division C
fikabo (Jewish with Romans) defeated MikeMarchant (Seleucid with Jewish Ally) 41-16
I was very surprised at the beginning of the game as my skirmishes diseappered one by one. At one moment result was 0:8.
My left wing has attacked with success enemy units (disrupted before by my skirmishes). My weaker right wing was safe on hill(>75m).
My center also on hill waited and tried to lock enemy center (lock help to his right wing).

oscarius (Thracians) defeated Ulysisgrunt (Jewish) 65 - 39
Despite both sides possessing strong skirmishing assets we were both eager to initiate the melee and both armies raced to meet. The zealots made no headway against my central pikes while lancers helped prop up my crummy Thracian infantry on the wings while the lighter cavalry outflanked. Strong firepower and aggressive mass cavalry use seem the best recipe for defeating the infamous Jewish Revolt lists. The new rules in particular seemed in my favour as the zealots struggled to make much combat stick with my lancers.

Division C
sunnyboy (Scots) defeated Oscarius (Rus) 63:40
Quite a slog, the Scots loaded their right with masses of Pict spear-men hoping to take advantage of rough terrain and woods to turn the Rus left flank. The trade off was an under strength left flank comprised of the Scottish horse supported a motley band of viking beserkers. Fortunately for the Scots as the centre collapsed the weight of Pictish numbers won the day on the right and with their left flank acquitting themselves better than expected a hard fought win was secured.
Thanks for the game!

harveylh – Roman 197-284 AD defeats hidde - Parthian 250 BC - 225 AD with Seleucid ally, 61-40
A map with abundant rough terrain made it difficult for either side’s heavy infantry to do well. However, the Romans had more and better medium infantry which proved to be the difference in the end.

Division B
Geffalrus (Poles) defeats Nijis (Byzantines) 43-10
In a battlefield somewhat constricted by mountain and forest, the Poles and Byzantines each arrived with a preference for infantry over cavalry. Normally enjoying a potential ranged advantage due to their large pool of massed archers and skirmishers, the Poles realized early on that the armored Byzantine infantry and the bows they carried would be more than a match. Instead, the Poles used a screen of skirmishers to get their more cost efficient heavy infantry into contact with the Byzantine infantry. Once again, the Polish dismounted nobles did excellent work dislodging the Byzantine infantry from their hill, while the archers and spears distracted most of the Byzantine cavalry on the flanks. The powerful Clibanarii were able to burst through the Polish center, Kool Aid Man style, but the Polish cavalry in reserve were able to minimize the damage (the Clibanarii, despite being dogpiled by the Poles, survived with barely a scratch). Polish victory was assured once they were able to sneak some cavalry through gaps in the line and start flanking the engaged Skutatoi.
Good game to Nijis.
The end result of spears vs. arrows.
