Panzer Corps Veteran has questions about OOB

Hi Folks!

After playing through Panzer Corps years ago, and also the content of Panzer Corps 2, I would like to try OOB.
Both games are similar, but very different in some ways.

Yesterday I played the first trainings mission.

My first question relates to the screenshot from the first training mission.I think this unit has just landed.

- What does the half star mean in the unit status? And what does the small 1 to the right of the strength indicator mean?

And my next two questions:

- Isn't it possible to undo a movement in OOB? I haven't found a button or a shortcut. That surprises me a lot, since the possibility actually exists in every strategy game.

- Is there a way to permanently deactivate the status window that appears before each new round? I don't have to be automatically informed of my objectives before each new round.

Half star means that the unit have moved, but not attacked.
Some units like paras (and maybe marines) can spend a few turns without being supplied (and suffer its consequences).
No undo, this has been discussed to death in the past.
I think the status window behaviour is set in stone. You can always use the short-cut o to close it. I use a number of the short-cuts during play to speed up the game.

Chess and checkers have a touch it means you must move it. Civ, Humankind, Sanctus Reach, Total War, Paradox, OOB, Strategic Command, GG, original Panzer General and numerous other games have no "take backsies" undo button. That's by far the vast majority of niche and mainstream strategy games. I've always been kinda confused why any strategy game has it as an unlimited use option as it allows you to, essentially, have a cheat.

No, and I personally find it helpful as I often forget objectives midway through. A scenario can take a long time.

Supply cache. If a unit is cut off for whatever reason from a base of supply it can last one turn before taking penalties. Very helpful on marine units

My opinion is that the player should decide for himself whether he wants to take the undo option or not. The game should basically provide for the possibility. If you consider it a cheat, you can deactivate it, and play without them. I think that would be the best solution. But even so I can live with it ... :wink:

I know that is the symbol for the fraction.
I was just wondering why the star (here USA) is only half visible. That must mean something.

An attack will always end a unit's turn, same for repairing/healing.

The small number is how much supply cache the unit is carrying. In general, Marines have 1 turn of supply cache, Paratroops 3.

This allows them to survive being cut off from a supply source without taking any efficiency hit.

Ah, now I understand! Perfect, thanks for clarification! :D

But my next two questions please...

- Are there campaign trees for the various OOB content to read? Here in the forum as an example? I didn't find anything in the game.

- After completing the training missions, I would like to start the Sandstorm campaign.
Unfortunately I didn't find any information on how the different levels of difficulty differ. There is also no tooltip. So what is the difference between each level of difficulty? In Panzer Corps I always play with the difficulty level "General". Is this comparable?

The difficulty levels add or substract strength points for the AI unit.
Example, level 3 has max AI unit strength = 10 (no advantage to their human or AI). Level 2 has max strength = 8 for AI units (this is also the default level from campaigns, make sure you change it to level 3 if you prefer an even battle field.
The level label and graphic differs between the various campaigns. Anyway, level 3 is in the center of the options.

As someone who knows what they're doing with this sort of game, I'd recommend starting on level 3 and putting it upwards if you find you're doing too well.

This campaign tree was removed for some reason (no longer correct?).
But it should give you a reasonable overview anyway.
Some of the campaign announcements included trees.

Next Questions (I´ve read the manual, but I don´t find an answer...)

- Are the costs of refreshing units with normal and elite reinforcements in the scenario more expensive than in the deployment phase?

- How about buying and upgrading units. Is there a difference between doing it in the middle of the scenario or in the deployment phase?

You do also get a partial refund on repairs to Auxiliaries, but I'd have to go to the manual to remember how much :$
