There isn't an itemised list of rules changes.

That is because there isn't a big difference in the rules. The rules were always designed to cover 3000 BC - 1500 AD (like the tabletop rules), so already included most of the stuff that would be needed for the High Medieval period, even if it wasn't actually used in FOG2 Ancients.

The main differences come from the different troop types and combinations. Also field fortifications - which aren't used much in the base game, but will be used increasingly in the later part of the period, along with stakes for longbowmen in the second half of the 100 Years War.

1) Battles like Agincourt showed that, under favourable conditions (a defensive terrain, time to install stakes, rain), longbowmen were formidable. But in cases where these conditions weren’t met, especially when they were surprised before installing stakes like at Patay, the English army was vulnerable.

Will there be a kind of a mechanism to mimic this possibility of a lack of time to install stakes, such as a random number of stakes available during deployment ? If I am not mistaken, in the TT game, there was a binary rule stating that all longbow units must have stakes or none.

Will the two Ambush scenarios prevent the Ambushed one from using stakes (because of this lack of time) ?

Well I guess I’ll get the answers to those questions when the HYW dlc(s) come out :-)

2) (off-topic) How about an Ambush scenario with the Ambushed one having his back turned, as if the enemy vanguard had caught his rearguard ?

Longbowmen take a whole turn to place stakes. There are good reason why you might sometimes not want to do so immediately, so there is scope for being caught without.

Well they could just turn round again. Unless they couldn't, in which case it would be a bit one-sided.

I had in mind for the Ambushed orders of march that wouldn't lead to the vanilla frontal deployment of the two armies in case of a simple 180° rotation of each of its units, such as a plain 'Knights at the rearguard (thus attacked first), infantry in the middle, lights at the vanguard'.

So this will remain a decision taken by the English side, not an inability (to use stakes) imposed by the surprise. That said (due to my contradictory spirit, forgive it), I am sure your implementing the stakes will be great :-)

I used to play HYW and WoTR armies all the time in the table top game. I think as RBS mentioned what you are asking for will be apparent in game. Longbowmen carry the stakes with them until placed. Once placed the longbowmen must remain and if they move the stakes are lost. So unless you set up in an ideal defensive position you'd likely want to move the LB and if your placement is bad, or your position is outflanked (not in-between convenient woods  ) your LB may have to abandon the stakes.

Yes, but we are holding off on releasing the update until the World Team Championship and current FOG2DL season are over. Hence some time in January.

Seems logical, any further rules changes planned for release at a similar time?

Also is there anywhere the patch notes for both/ either game can be read on the site or forum?
