What triggers an AI attack?

What triggers an AI attack?

Post by Bombax » Thu Jul 04, 2019 12:19 pm

Is there a specific factor that triggers an AI attack against an opponent, when the AI has initially appeared 'reluctant' to advance?
Is it when player-controlled units advance beyond a certain point on the battlefield?
Or is it more complex than that?

Thanks,
Jay

We prefer to remain vague on this, because exact knowledge of the algorithms would allow easier exploitation.

In my experience the AI seems to move when there's advantageous terrain to be occupied between the armies, if there's enemy units in very close proximity, or a stationary unit is under heavy fire from skirmishers.

Yup. Hurl some stones, arrows or javelins at them. I find if you bloody them a bit they tend get moving. Haven’t dug into what actually effects whether Mr. AI advances though. But, most of the time the AI can be lured with lights or cavalry.

That's been my experience too, so far. If I want the AI to attack I send forward some pesky Light Cavalry or Psiloi to 'irritate' it into attacking. I was interested in finding out what the conditions for an AI advance were in a bit more detail, but I can understand Richard's reluctance to divulge them :D :D :D
