4th May 2007 - The Kameleon Project

Slitherine Software Announces the Kameleon Project

The Kameleon Project is the brainchild of Slitherine Software, itself an independently funded developer. It has been created to assist other independent developers to bring their games to market.

If you’ve got programmers but no artists, the Kameleon Project will arrange a match. If you’re missing music and sound effects the Kameleon Project can help. If you need design, marketing, business or general advice the Kameleon Project is your one stop shop.

Over the years Slitherine have made many friends and keep in regular touch with them, exchanging information and ideas, and sharing experiences, good and bad. During this time it became apparent to Slitherine that whilst many independent teams lack nothing in talent they have little or no experience in dealing with marketing, publishing, contracts, and the million and one other things that are needed to successfully launch a new title. In their eagerness to bring their games to market they often settle for deals that are less than favourable to them.

Slitherine supplies marketing and PR support, external production (music, sound effects, box art etc), game design, technical support, pro-forma documentation, sales and negotiating expertise and in fact anything needed to progress the development of their projects, allowing the development team to concentrate on what they do well, make great games. The first release from the Kameleon Project is ‘Commanders – Europe at War’ from Firepower Entertainment and DoubleThink Studios, which will be mastering in May 2007.

Johan Persson from Firepower Entertainment said, "For Firepower Entertainment, being part of the Kameleon Project has been a great opportunity for us to get into the game business by working closely with Slitherine. This would not have been possible otherwise and I'm really pleased that Slitherine has given Firepower Entertainment the chance to prove itself in this way."

Iain McNeil from Slitherine added, "Firepower Entertainment had some great ideas but just needed a little help and to be pointed in the right direction. They put in all the hard work and now they have a great game. We just can't wait to see it released. It’s exciting times for us and we are especially proud to be able to bring the work of these talented teams to the market, which might not otherwise have seen the light of day"

If you have a game that you think would fit well with the values of the Kameleon Project then please visit www.kameleon-project.com.

30th April 2007 - Commander Developer Diary Update

April Diary
This month has seen a lot of balancing and inclusion of missing pieces of art. Also a lot of minor bug fixes. We've added biographies for some of teh commanders and the manual is being worked on. The scenarios are being continual, scenarios are being improved and the final touches on made to music, sound effects and cool splash screens for the loading game sequence.

We are getting close to the end now and the focus is entirely on balancing features rather than adding a lot of new stuff. At this late stage what may sound like a good idea on paper may have all sorts of unforseen knock on effects so we're making sure we only change things that wont break other parts of teh game! I's also important not to introduce bugs and ruin the stability of the final product. Currently it's very stable and we've not seen a crash for more than a week.

Having said all that we have added a few new features such as partisans, which may now appear behind your lines in enemy territory at anytime anywhere.

The creative beta testers have not only detected a lot of bugs that have been fixed but also provided loads of suggestions for this release and future versions. We have a lot of material stored now, Thanks! Some testers have done some noticeable extensive work, for instance has Kurt Eichert (Vypuero) has put a huge amount of time and effort in to the scenarios. Others have also helped with commander lists and biography creations. Things like this help to ensure great historical accuracy and this has been somethgn we are very interested in throughout development as much as possible, without compromising playability of course.

Up until now we've been a bit vague about when teh game would be complete as we did not want to make false promises. Now we are so close to completion that we can say confidently that the game will go gold in May and its just down to logistics about when the actual release will be! We can say that it will be very soon :)

/Johan Persson – Firepower Entertainment
