Re: FoG Machine Learning Prediction Project

5. Player Stance (defensive, offensive). Generally can be determined where the first melee clashes happen. 6. Terrain of first contact. This is the type of terrain where most of the battle line fist meet in melee. Interesting idea, but I would scratch the two factors above: --In most of my games at...

Re: Cataphracts : Rework Needed ?

I would think that any raw troops would be especially vulnerable to cats--it must have taken extensive training to keep men from cowering, if not fleeing, when charged by huge armored horses...

Re: suggestion : more RALLIED UNITS with events on the battlefield ?

Very frustrating, because in those games i didnt get any rallies from broken at all. This is not actually completely random, because certain armies (ie, Roman) tend not to break until they auto-break (after which there is no chance to rally) while other armies tend to break more easily and thus hav...

Re: suggestion : more RALLIED UNITS with events on the battlefield ?

I certainly don't think the ability for troops to rally should be enhanced. Is there a historical precedent? While I agree with you that units that have already broken should not be easier to rally, I do think that certain circumstances should allow units which are about to break to rally (actually...

Re: suggestion : more RALLIED UNITS with events on the battlefield ?

They aren’t counting towards the winning %, they are counting towards their army not breaking so soon. Yes Richard, I know how it works, but the point is that they count when calculating the percentages for victory even though they generally contribute nothing--and cannot contribute anything--to th...

Re: suggestion : more RALLIED UNITS with events on the battlefield ?

The problem even with the current amount of rallying is that the rallied units count towards the victory percentage but in practice they rarely have time to contribute or even return to the front. Effect on victory percentage is especially silly when an unit rallies in a faraway forest where no-one...

Re: Cataphracts : Rework Needed ?

Shock cavalry against medium foot does seem underwhelming regardless though. I mean irregular foot losing only 1 in 5 times on impact seems a bit low Agreed. Disciplined heavy foot is one thing, but irregular foot is something else. If cats can't be counted on to smash irregular foot pretty regular...

Dammit, I joined the Freemasons and now find out that only the Illuminati get this info...totally unfair, I tell ya!

Re: suggestion : more RALLIED UNITS with events on the battlefield ?

Also maybe increase odds for rallying (or maybe even instant rally) if a disrupted or fragmented unit wins a melee. Not implausible that they could "get their mojo back" if they stick it to the enemy.

Re: Armored Horse Archers?

How do you have that many units in even points battle? Are you playing on non-default map size for the points or is there a mountain/water that narrows the map? The map is actually wider than usual (my usual XL army set up), but there is a river which narrows it quite a bit. Plus he has a ton of ch...

Re: Armored Horse Archers?

The simplest tactic to defeat shooty horse is what I call "the wall of cheap foot". On the standard medium size map, with the standard points count, is very easy to get enough units to build a line across the map and prevent the horse getting around your rear. That alone makes historical shooty hor...

But this is part of the problem...for them to shoot their bows they need to be close enough that the enemy can move within charge range by the next turn, if they are not in charge range already?

Re: Armored Horse Archers?

Basically don't allow the infantry army to have a linear line battle, ride around their flanks instead, force them to reorganize constantly and pick off any units you manage to isolate and disrupt. As long as you avoid the line battle you should be able to keep your units out of unfavorable melee p...

Armored Horse Archers?

Did a search for this topic, it's probably been covered before, but I couldn't find anything... I'm currently fighting two battles where a large part (~1/2) of my army is made up of armored horse archers, vs mainly foot armies. I think I'm doing something wrong, because I find these units just about...

Re: Tactical abstract battle system

You don't play the battles, you view them. The fun is in making the choice of the correct units to go to battle, depending on terrain and enemy forces. It's a bit rudimentary right now. This doesn't sound very different from Imperator: Rome...can anyone confirm if they are more or less similar? I c...

Re: Tactical abstract battle system

Some suggestions (including some I have seen in other threads): - Flank boxes or something to allow cavalry to wheel around rather than attack frontally - Some kind of bonuses for the types of troops involved? HC vs Phalanx frontally -1, etc. - Specifically giving a setup phase that allows a player...

Re: Way too much pop growth...

Though I would like to see or read for myself to what extent army movements really inflicted demographic changes. It would be a very interesting read. Well, keep in mind it wasn't just "army movements", but warfare itself, with all of the associated burning, looting, massacring, etc. I haven't read...

Re: Way too much pop growth...

Like I mentioned earlier, those defeats (maybe up to 60k killed on the Roman side at Cannae) were quite taxing on the social strata making up the bulk of the Roman army, but, demographically it made little impact. Don't forget that such heavy losses were more of an exception than rule. In fact, it ...
