Re: GS4.0 Aircraft ranges
We have been testing these ranges for at least two years and Sea Lion fears were overrated. The fighters still do not go as far as bombers do the unescorted raids later in the war with the Flying Fortress et al. happens. the real change is that fighters in the late game can cover most of Germany. Th...

Re: GS v4 Questions??
Just had it done to me... it takes a lot of planning and in this case he (Diplomaticus) followed up with an amazing conquest of Greece. It was "formidable" as they say in French.

Re: Version 4 questions
There is a sort of espionage. Again it can be turned off at the beginning and it allows a slight boost (others know the mechanics and math better than me) to research in the armed forces side of things (not in the General research categories IIRC).

Re: German Commanders
Not sayin' that we did not do well, just flagging what I see as one inconsistency. Others have expressed issues around the number of UK commanders for example so this all just means that there is some discussion but I do not see a big clamour for change. Will just say though, in terms of promotion t...

German Commanders
This is not a big thing but it is annoying me and is a layer of historical inaccuracy in the early game that I do not like nor do I think we need. So, currently Germany gets Rundstedt, Bock, Leeb and Reichenau for 1939 and 1940. The historical (i.e. actual) OoB for 1939 Heergruppe Sud - Rundstedt 8 ...

Re: CEAW 4.0: First Impressions
Just started a game with Diplomaticus and voila, he took Poland in a turn. Must say I was surprised and not pleasantly at that. (Nicely done, Diplomaticus!) He said he used a slightly different method then the one Vokt described so, that would lend support to his assertion of 80% as he did it slight...

Re: GS v4.0 paratrooper issues
Rail rules are fine. this is like trying to fix a bicycle and instead you redesign the road. so... can we hear from the players who practice the garrison blob? 1. Do you win as the Axis because of this? 2. a What happens to your manpower and b. how does that affect future turns? 3. a. How much do yo...

Re: GS v4.0 paratrooper issues
Vokt, you want to create a whole new set of units and/or an upgrade model but say that some of the other ideas floated here would not work or have unattended consequences? Go figure. Second, just because you could upgrade garrisons that would not solve the blob issue. Players wold just have another ...

Re: GS v4.0 paratrooper issues
I have lost Italy twice in late '43 and still held at least one German capital by the game's end. It is extremely tough to do though and I think as a general proposition you are right Diplomaticus, Italy falls and Germany does not have the wherewithal to hold. That being said, have not lost Italy in...

Re: GS v4.0 paratrooper issues
Now I think we are treading way out of sight of land! :) Re. Landing in Italy instead of Sicily et al., is that you have the issue of air superiority. The allies could only land where they had air superiority, to do otherwise was to risk annihilation at sea and on the beachhead. The game currently r...

Re: GS v4.0 paratrooper issues
First off, I agree with several of the commentators that if it ain't broke, then don't touch it. And that goes for Stauffenberg's post at the top of this page. However, I too have encountered the fill-every-hex-of-Sicily/Sardinia-with-garrisons and that is beyond lame. Sorry if that offends anyone b...

Re: GS v4.0 paratrooper issues
We already have a problem with garrisons being used two deep all along the French coast to stop Overlord so this idea, with all due respect, FirstCanadian, would just free up even more garrisons for that exploit. As for the unit being wiped out, there is a limit on the number of airborne divisions (...

Re: Is it possible to run 4.0 on Windows 10?
From a Mac perspective, the game starts by asking me whether I want window or full screen. For me it is one more step and am okay wight hat. Yours sounds like it is a bit more of a pain.

Re: Growing the CEAW player base?
Throwing in the towel is an accepted practice with some players and in some groups. Maybe not so much for others. I would suggest posting a new thread stating you are a newbie and asking for a couple of quick learning games. Hopefully you won't get bites from a monster player who needs his/her ego s...

Re: version 4.0 problems
Interesting... just tried it with the ARN DD (T27) and it did not work.
Am using the latest (mac) version. Cannot explain how this happened from my test. Also tried multiple other adjacent hexes and no bug found.

Re: GS v4.0 paratrooper issues
Well the hex size makes my point even more and undermines the objection to airborne landing on cities/towns. Add in the 20 days in a turn and even more so. As for fortifications, as you know of course, it is not all the terrain that counts but strategic positions inside a hex that count. Those are t...

Re: GS v4.0 paratrooper issues
The hexes are 20km wide and Arnhem was not a city that is 20 km wide (in fact, few cities are 20km wide and even if they are they are not often built up so that the density covers every bit). If a hex side is 15km for the sake of argument (20km is the absolute width, not a hex side) then the hex con...
