Re: BrucErik CSD Studio

I was wondering why the scouts were on transports to begin the scenario until I remembered that shallow water does not freeze in OOB. Then I recalled your trick of using lake water. Below is the before and after test; I proceeded to fill the Suvanto River with lake water: Screenshot 1.jpg Screenshot...

Here's a nod to your "Sausage War": Screenshot 1.jpg I will finish the scenario tomorrow. The Sausage War on Raate Road Well, aside from fiddling with the Soviet column again, including AI tasks and triggers, you can tell that I had a bit of fun with this one. Screenshot 5.jpg Screenshot 6.j...

Re: Erik's campaigns

This should be set for "Turn Start" event. That is, if you want the player to be forced to play out all the turns. If not, then delete the "Check Turn" condition itself. Nice find Bruce. I think the original reason for waiting for the last turn must be that when we capture the 3rd objective, a new ...

Re: Erik's campaigns

Just played the 2.2 update. In the first scenario, Arawe, even though all three objectives are captured it does not show as complete, and it ended as a draw. One of the cool things about OOB, when it is relatively bug-free, that is, is that it's quite logical. I looked at the triggers, found nothin...

Hmm with their current model they could update the engine fully and have the DLC all back compatible.
Not to mention custom work. All the more reason to be careful what we wish for.

Re: Will there be an Order of Battle 2

Frankly, I'd be fine if they never did an OOB 2 and, instead, "finished" WW2 and expanded into other historical eras.

Re: Color photos of WWII

Yeah black and white photos definitely set the correct mood when playing OOB. The vast preponderance of photography in WW2 was in black and white, as far as I know, and the popup messages usually read like newspaper articles of the time. Color just jars the senses in that, instead of reading the ne...

Re: BrucErik CSD Studio

White Death at Petsamo A simple but interesting scenario. Both sides are looking to exit the map! The player must prevent any Soviet unit from leaving but at the same time needs to exit 7 of his own units before scenario end. As the briefing says, "This will be a delicate operation, much depending ...

Re: BrucErik CSD Studio

I finally devised a way to have the AI "redeploy" an air unit. The quotes indicate that the real process is "spawn" because the "Deploy Unit" effect simply does not work for AI units. You will see this in the upcoming scenario: Screenshot 1.jpg Screenshot 2.jpg I used it in conjunction with one Sovi...

Sigh. I am becoming convinced that the Finns are a very unimaginative people when it comes to place names!

Re: BrucErik CSD Studio

This then creates the crazy scenario where you have SS Panzers beaming into the middle of your units. That's why I always advocate spawning on the map edges unless it's an instance of "emerging from hiding." I mean am I playing against the Germans or the Romulans" "My Herr, the elite SS Brigade wil...

What I meant to say  is that there were so many Polish units and not enough action near them, the the I never moved them. But I am also lazy with unit movement sometimes. 8)

Re: BrucErik CSD Studio

One further note: In scenarios where there are no flagged village hexes, we had better provide a game-length (that is, for Turn 1 through end of scenario) deployment hex or two on the map edges. Reason: I know you sometimes like to control initial deployment hexes (Turn 0) and flagged village hexes ...

Re: BrucErik CSD Studio

Buying Time on the Salla-Kemijarvi Road I got my bearings using this map. I used the boxed locations to "triangulate" and for some village names in between: Image0188.jpg If you look at the scenario map, you will see what I mean. The Soviets can exit three ways, so I identified where they would be ...

Re: BrucErik CSD Studio

Suomossalmi Village - Tightening the Noose I always feel on firmer ground when I can find a reference to a battle. In this case, I found two: Battle of Raate Road and Battle of Suomussalmi . These both confirmed and clarified the original scenario description. This battle was a division-level affai...

Re: BrucErik CSD Studio

Lemetti Road - Challenging Task Force Autti Here and there, I will tweak resources and command points; not a regular practice, but where I feel there is some discrepancy indicative of a probable error. As in this case; I cannot believe that you intend the player to stop 9 enemy infantry units and 7...
