Re: Does simulating history matter in OOB?

Finally playing and early DLC, US Pacific, and I find a couple of disturbing points in game play that I can't justify against "reality." I am trying to figure out approx. time/turn in naval scenarios. A BB requires two turns to reload but my reading shows that reload times for main guns wa...

I'm not happy when I get a message that my credentials are being submitted on an in-secure log-in.

Re: Does simulating history matter in OOB?

Is it possible to modify the scenarios within a campaign ? Don't forget you have to copy them scens from the game's base installation folder to the "...\My Games\Order of Battle - WW2\Scenarios" folder - and then back again. And make backups! Where do I find these for a Macintosh install?...

Re: Does simulating history matter in OOB?

I'm going to think about the problem of simulating morale in OOB. If I am simulating history within OOB, this is an issue. I've thought about this because of a couple of books I read on the Winter War after I started playing, and a paper on fighting the Russians in Winter (https://usacac.army.mil/ca...

Is it possible to modify the scenarios within a campaign ? Absolutely! Check out the Scenario Design subforum here to look for tutorials. This topic here is a good start: http://www.slitherine.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=374&t=70345 Thanks! Complex but doable. I will spend some time exploring it.

Re: Does simulating history matter in OOB?

The problem with rigidly-fixed historical games is that they tend to always play the same every time you play them (yawn).." I disagree with this statement completely. There is no doubt in my mind that the creators of OOB mean for them to be historical and reasonably accurate, regardless of th...

Re: Does simulating history matter in OOB?

I own a bunch of board wargames my fellow gamers and I called "beer and pretzel" games. They are fun to play, easy to learn but not simple, and highly competitive for matched players. They offered and offer a wide enough range of problems and possible outcomes that they got a lot of replay...

Re: Does simulating history matter in OOB?

I guess this subject is interesting to people. I had this thought regard scale: using Someri as an example, any artillery on the island should be able to target any other hex because the distances are so small. On the other hand, during the climactic Battle of Tali-Ihantala the Finnish use of artill...

Re: Does simulating history matter in OOB?

This is my opinion, and it won't stop me from playing - as has been stated, the game is fun - but adding the information doesn't mean changing the game. But consider this, the Someri scenario of the Winter War campaign, involved less than 2000 troops on the island but the supply rules remained the s...

Does simulating history matter in OOB?

I grew up on board war games and after college also played miniatures. One of the pleasures was playing games that simulated varying levels of command, from company sized in games such as Squad Leader, to entire fronts as in Panzergruppe Guderian. Among other things, scale of units, scale of hex and...

Re: Pitching a Game to Slitherine

If OSX, Linux and Android are non-starters, perhaps the problem is the lack of quality games for the platforms? Perhaps starting small for those platforms might see a pay-off by building an audience - as Kinsella heard in "Field of Dreams," if you build it, they will come. Where's the qual...

It's sort of absurd in 2019 for the site to not be secured.
