Re: 'Tanks, more tanks, Tovarish!' - Red Star Review and Discuss

Regarding the fighter/AA comments, AA are a good addition indeed, but I can also see objectives coming in future content that require ***fighters to be achieved....just sayin' ;) I mean the obvious retort is that you're tracking who kills what based on last hit, so I can 12/13 it with AA and then f...

Re: OoB Western Allies GC sketch

I'd personally start the opener as UK/FRA and go with Dyle Line (1), Sedan (2), Stonne (3) and then Dunkirk Evacuation (4) followed by Narvik (5) as a change of pace. Arras and De Gaulle's counterattack were both shambolic and pretty limited in scope so I'd personally fold them into the evacuation s...

Re: 'Tanks, more tanks, Tovarish!' - Red Star Review and Discuss

Just finished Yelnya in a little better shape than I had hoped for. End of deployment phase and I still have 429 RPeez (and 6 air CeePeez that I hope I don't have to use -- bought two interceptors based on the mission brief). Bought no aircraft and played with two mobile AA units. Only 2 tanks (T-3...

Re: 'Tanks, more tanks, Tovarish!' - Red Star Review and Discuss

I'm not sure how you managed to pay for 2x high vet KV2 without being bankrupt. But I was. Twice. Somewhere mid-mission at Raseiniai and then again at Smolensk. So what? Doesn't mean that I have to resort to regular repairs then. Just wait a few turns and save the RPs until you can elite repa...

Re: OoB Western Allies GC sketch

I would add the ill-fated Norwegian campaign to the Darkest Hour. This could be a nice combination of air-land-naval battles involving British, Norwegian, French Polish and German forces. Regards from the Norwegian Thanks Erik I thought about it, but I'm not sure when to place it, because the event...

Re: Crossing the Rubicon on "Unreliable"

[...] do you click on the terrain hex type window to change it to unit traits every time you move a unit? I'll be damned. Thanks Bruce! I was looking for this since the beginning. And I've always wondered how they could've forgotten to put in the unit's trait info... turns out, they didn't.....

Re: Red star is so fun!

I so hope we get two branches, one for Mars and one for Uranus. It'd be really cool to have the option of going for an ahistorical victory in Mars or opting to play the historically successful Uranus instead. Agree though, it is an incredible campaign and easily my favorite. The sole thing I dislike...

Re: ‘41-‘43 soviet dlc wishlist

Combat eng vs assault eng could be solved with the latter having no build pontoon ability. Actually, making this distinction was a missed opportunity early in OOB. Standard eng should be cheap with cp = 2 (Seabees and Bau eng), while assault eng could be more expensive than inf and CP=4. That would...

Re: ‘41-‘43 soviet dlc wishlist

I'm afraid I have to curb the enthusiasm a bit here. The thing is that we are already having many inf units, and I doubt adding many more is the way to go. We have inf and guards inf, not to mention heavy, eng, para, marines - all with new models coming in per year, which already represents various...

Re: 'Tanks, more tanks, Tovarish!' - Red Star Review and Discuss

Units with an AT gun behind them will take substantially less damage from tanks btw. That's a misconception, though. Supporting units in OoB increase the attacking stats only. Your tactics are sound otherwise IMO, together with what you wrote in the other thread. Other players that want to get bett...

Re: ‘41-‘43 soviet dlc wishlist

Soviet assault engineers units - appeared first time at Smolensk area, August 1943 This troops wore steel body armor (breastplates like medieval knights :) ) and they did an amazing work attacking fortifications or during the breaking of the German defense on the main points of Red Army attack (onl...

Re: Red Star, my favourite so far, Why and a question..

I routinely end with a massive surplus on difficulty 4 and 5 playthroughs, including Red Star. I was able to upgrade all of my four tanks to T-34 on the very first mission they were available. Your issue is that you are too aggressive in attacking with infantry and armor!! Infantry is a screening un...

After playing through the first few missions of KM campaign, I can't imagine something I'd be less likely to buy than another air/naval only campaign. Easily my least favorite part of this franchise behind maybe only the Marine campaign, a campaign of literally nothing but bunker busting on tiny isl...

Re: 'Tanks, more tanks, Tovarish!' - Red Star Review and Discuss

Marine have great stats but expensive to reinforce. Their vs mech stat is also not great. Standard strelki for me any day over the elite units. Infantry, artillery and AT guns are my bread and butter. Artillery is how you kill infantry, not other infantry. And in a defensive position you want heavy ...

Re: Gameplay advice sought for Coral Sea

I had no trouble getting this mission done with all secondaries. Prior to this mission I had completed all secondaries on all prior missions. This meant weaker Japanese air crews and a free BB on my side. I go with two carriers, with an air complement of 2 ftr, 2 db, 2 torp. Don't underestimate the ...

Re: How has the A.I been improved ?

I think, Molve is making a very good general point that any advancement in AI tactics will make it much more likely for the player to lose his core units, which is really harmful in a campaign environment. Even a simple ability to concentrate several attacks on a single unit will make the AI vastly...

Carrier sailed off into sunset?

I moved my plane to a position, then I ordered my carrier to move under it. While the carrier was still moving, I ordered the plane to land. The carrier continued moving off the border of the map. Just kinda sailed away with an insouciant "doot doot this" attitude. I have a save, you can click on th...

Re: Waffen SS

I'm totally down with not using Nazi symbols, but could we get a different version of the main flag as opposed to a pirate flag for the SS? The KM gets a white background on the standard WM flag, maybe give the SS a yellow or green or something background (blue should be avoided for color blind peop...
