Re: A new story begins... Panzer Corps 2 has been announced!

I enjoyed the series but eventually wearied of the canned scenarios: time & again same battlefields with the same protagonists & setups. I likely won't buy PC2 unless it has more variety in the form of procedurally generated battlefield maps.

Re: Destroyers- Must have been on Sale at Wal-mart

This is the thing that eventually sours me on these PG/PC/OOB:P type games: the heavy scripting and trick solutions that are required to win them, often in unrealistic ways. You have to play them over and over to master the moves and timing that wins the scenarios and eventually the campaigns. I can...

Re: Lexington - who else didn't upgrade?

Both Lex and Sara were intended to be part of the fleet scouting force and thus had to be prepared to exchange fire with enemy scouting force units, the heaviest of which were anticipated to be heavy cruisers. So both carriers were initially armed with four 8" twin turrets. They also had the belt ar...

Re: Is Anti-Air accurate?

There is a reason why the British and Americans made an AA Cruiser. Massive AA to keep away the enemy. Yes, and too bad the AA cruisers are not represented except as non-core units. And poorly at that. That being said, the AA cruisers really were just an expedient means to put a lot of AA rounds in...

Re: Fantastic game - here's my first impressions

The dramatic exit of the US fleet in the early phase of the Guadalcanal scenario is actually pretty accurate historically speaking. The Marines were almost entirely abandoned by the navy after the first battle of Guadalcanal, AKA Battle of Savo Island, when the US lost four cruisers to the Japanese....

Re: So, when did you use the Higgins Boat?

I've tried playing OOB:P using some "realistic" choices (based on 40+ years of study of that war) and found that the most important ones historically for the US war strategy IRL (Higgins boats, Radar, pilot training) don't pan out as well as the alternatives in the game. They are viable choices, sim...

Re: Any one manage to get a veterancy 5 submarine?

The US navy lost 52 out of some 200+ submarines in WW2 so the chances were pretty slim of gaining much "veterancy" IRL, anyway. It was a risky way to go to war, for all combatants.

Re: So, when did you use the Higgins Boat?

Andrew Higgins ... is the man who won the war for us. ... If Higgins had not designed and built those LCVPs, we never could have landed over an open beach. The whole strategy of the war would have been different. - Dwight D. Eisenhower But apparently he meant WW2 and not OoB:Pacific. :D Because I a...

Re: So, when did you use the Higgins Boat?

Then I don't understand what you want to know... You say" Higgins boats, not in action at all so far..." but I used them for a while, I think they're available at Guadalcanal IIRC. I think you are confusing Higgins Boats (technology choice) with the LVT-1 (transport you can purchase for infantry un...

Missing USA units I'd like to see

While admittedly I'm only 3/4 through the US campaign, I don't see any sign of some of the units that I expected to see in the game, and which should be in it IMO: Independence Class light carriers (carry 2 aircraft, speed 4 since based on light cruiser hulls). Cleveland Class light cruisers Atlanta...

Re: Midway USA advice please

And I should have got a Catalina instead of Kingfishers! Or does anyone here argue in favor of Kingfishers? 2 Kingfishers reveal twice as much as a Catalina for the same price. When you absolutely, positively, must find those enemy carriers, you need all the area searched that you possibly can, and...

As many choices and paths as possible for both Japanese and US/Allied forces in Pacific, China and South East Asia theaters. Nothing too major, just the whole enchilada.

Re: Bridge blowing

Perhaps bridges could best be modeled as structures with defense values against various kinds of attack. Engineers would have the highest "anti-bridge" attack value but the odds of success would always be less than 100%. Different types of bridges might have different defense values. Better yet. I'...

Re: Does anybody else think the field medic special is worth

On the last mission as well. Same choice I made with ColinQ except I took the medic. I dun use Higgins boat as I use that blue transport that is really awesome land and move inland hehehe and no lost of effectiveness. I admit flight school is abit useless as the air power becomes weak for Japan lat...

Re: Pearl Harbour

I find this tricky game for US pearl harbor but after a few try i activated all the VP hehehe It is very "gamey" and puzzle-like, nothing you can logic out just by staring at it, only completed it successfully by trial and error - 4 or 5 times in my case. Later scenarios are similar puzzles, only m...

Re: Bridge blowing

I wouldn't mind seeing tac or strat bombers get the ability to target bridges with a 25-50% chance of destruction... the restriction on engineers blowing when an enemy unit is adjacent makes it really difficult to include bridge blowing in a viable defense-in-depth strategy. Especially because engi...

Re: How do you switch between bombs and torpedoes on planes

I'm guessing that the full patch change only works on the TBM/TBF and SB2C, though it may work on only the latter in the hotfix. IRL the Dauntless never carried torpedoes and the Devastator was only used to carry torpedoes. The Helldiver was designed to be able to carry torpedoes but never did, whil...

Re: Bridge blowing

When a unit is on a bridge and it blows. Is it possible to add some damage to the unit in an update? I admit it doesn't happen often though... The engineer unit has to be on the bridge to blow it. The engineer is not damaged, but must immediately select another adjacent hex to retreat to. No enemie...
