Re: The real reason why Halftracks are a MUST (not +Att)
Germans too had 81mm mortar tracks to go with the other support vehicles of the halftrack-borne panzer grenadier forces. Mortar tracks cannot fire on the move, of course, be they German or American. The differences come with all the other vehicles that can fire on the move, or at least from a quick ...

Re: how do you decrease
There's a hero that allows phased movement, i.e. you can move, attack, then move again if you have remaining movement points. That allows Stukas for example to attack then move off the target. In one playthrough I managed to get that hero combined with a twice attack hero and put them on a Stuka tog...

Re: Do17z & Do 217e
Doesn't the Do17z eventually become obsolete and hard to find replacement points for? This was my impression. Or has anyone actually taken the z all the way to 1945 and managed to keep it full strength?

Re: The real reason why Halftracks are a MUST (not +Att)
Again, the same thing applies to every branch of the respective armed forces. It's still the only outlier, no matter how much you keep telling yourself that it makes sense. By all means, please enlighten us then with some examples of other distinct doctrinal differences between the wartime particip...

Re: The real reason why Halftracks are a MUST (not +Att)
LOL Halftracks are the "odd outlier" for a specific reason, and that reason is doctrine and practice as it applies to German halftracks and their historic employment. Again, the same thing applies to every branch of the respective armed forces. It's still the only outlier, no matter how m...

Re: The real reason why Halftracks are a MUST (not +Att)
It could represent different national doctrine: Germany trained panzergrenadiers to fight from their halftracks and had specially designed support halftracks. They were basically mobile foxholes you fought from. Americans, Soviets & UK forces focused on using their halftracks and Kangaroos more...

Re: The Panzer IIIN
The IIIN was primarily a companion to the Tiger. It was intended to provide anti-infantry support where the Tiger was primarily for use against enemy armor. Tiger battalions often had a company of Pz IIIN's accompanying them. The IIIN was not widely distributed apart from those companies.

Re: Barbarossa Campaign
One thing I really like about PC2 is how different scenarios highlight different units and combinations. There are times when tanks and Stukas shine, and times when infantry and AT guns shine. Artillery is always important and sometimes your recon units are invaluable for surrounding units and forci...

Re: The real reason why Halftracks are a MUST (not +Att)
That's because half-tracks have much better off-road performance than wheeled transports; this is the same reason the all-terrain recons are significantly better than the standard wheeled ones, as the latter do not come close to matching the maneuverability of the former despite having just as many...

Re: I miss generic heroes
You can always limit yourself to 1 hero per unit. In fact I'm pretty sure you could mod that in too so you aren't even tempted. This is what I do & you can also force that to be the case via the 'Rules' file. I like that this game allows for the player to decide how he/she wants to play within ...

Re: I miss generic heroes
Sounds to me like there are a some who are pretty stuck on aspects of PC1. I played it. I prefer PC2. PC1 is still there for folks who prefer it. Designers can't make everyone happy. Gosh knows I was disappointed with some successor games, for instance XC2/WotC: too much zombie/witch/demon stuff fo...

Re: I miss generic heroes
With those super-heroes, a unit should be able to have only one heroe, because their combo shows even more they are comic and it removes immersion. Not for me. I'm even more immersed in the game when I can fix up a special OP super unit. You play your way and I'll play mine, fair enough? It's hard ...

Re: Combat strength question
So basically, if I have this right, the product of effective combat strength times attack should roughly represent a unit's combat effectiveness against a given target? And their initiative times their attack (if their initiative is higher than the enemy's) should roughly represent the damage they'...

Re: The real reason why Halftracks are a MUST (not +Att)
Try beefing up a pioneer with over strength and a hero or two, put him in a fast halftrack and you have a one-man army who can tackle almost any soft target, even in close terrain. It's worth the core slots with the pioneers, even more so than most other game units. With the right hero you can take ...

Re: I miss generic heroes
I for one am a big fan of the new heroes. I've put my 2x attack per turn Hero in a Stuka with another hero that is +5 tank attacks and they can bust up a tank unit in one go. Very handy. My pioneer has a hero that prevents retreats and has another hero that is +5 infantry attack. Guess who decimates...

Re: A KV-2 vs a completely suppressed Panther
It is an abstract game, not a simulation. As wisely noted by another, apply salt liberally when playing, or it is the player who will end up salty.
