Re: Updates - where we are at

Just played five games (3.5 hours, 800 points) in a competition in Australia using the latest rules and points amendments we could find, so cavalry and superiors were quite a bit cheaper, making for bigger armies, however most games had a decisive result. One thing I was concerned about was the incr...

Re: Points Values - the whole damn lot

I've always found the 8 base warrior bow units a bit problematic against pike/shot. They can get all 8 shooting at short range against 2 or 3 of the pike/shot shooting at long range, need 3 hits for a cohesion test and when they finally get into combat get a ++ on overlap even if they have no weapon...

Re: Points Values - the whole damn lot

I played a Border Reivers army the other night. He had 10 mounted BGs with light lance :!: But they wouldn't be horse though. Most of the Horse with Light Lance are demi-lancer types - although there is a BG of Determined Horse with them in Duty & Glory IIRC  Later Russian and Ethiopian ...

Re: Cavalry turning and moving backwards in one turn?

I understand this is not an update with wholesale revisions of game mechanics, but I would argue that changing the movement of cavalry (and it is not a massive change) to make them behave more as they did historically (IMHO) is no different from changing the movement of dragoons for the same reason,...

Cavalry turning and moving backwards in one turn?

No one seems to have raised this as a possible change (or have I missed it?) - meaning this is a forlorn hope, especially as Kevin shot it down in the thread about point changes - but is it not possible to give bow armed cavalry some manoeuvrability, eg as in FOGAM v2, where they can turn and move b...

Re: Points Values - the whole damn lot

Thanks for the reply, I can see why the individual points are reduced, eg bow to match carbine, but I'm just a bit concerned that when they are all added together it is quite a big reduction. Still, if it gets more variety in the game I guess it's ok, playing in Australia, where the game is only bar...

Re: Points Values - the whole damn lot

Cavalry are seen as over-priced currently so they were always going to get cheaper. What we need to know is whether you think the suggested new values are OK, or too low? I think cavalry are overpriced but not 25% overpriced for superior, armoured with bow. I've used them a lot, and while I think t...

Re: Points Values - the whole damn lot

So Sup, Arm, Bow, Sw, Cav go from 16 to 12 points, Avg, Unarm, Bow, Sw, Cav go from 10 to 7 and Avg, Unarm, Bow, Sw, LH go from 9 to 7.

Lucky I play Russians.

Thanks a lot for your replies. I have to say that artillery rules are my least favourite part of FOG:R!

Flank charge on a pike/shot unit rear supporting artillery

iPad image quality

Hello, I'm not sure if this has been raised elsewhere but what's the story with the very average quality of the text in the iPad version? I have an iPad 3 and every other app I have has crystal clear text. This has jagged almost blurry text. For the record, I still have 20/20 vision so it's not my e...

Shooting over camps?

Hello, is it possible to shoot over either friendly or enemy camps at enemy on the other side? I couldn't find (I might be blind) where it said no, but it seems a bit odd if the camp is an enemy fortified camp and presumably has some soldiers etc defending it.

Thanks.

Dismounting flank march

Hello,

Can mounted troops on a flank march arrive dismounted (if those troops are allowed to dismount in the army list).

Thanks

Changes to shooting POAs

Did the changes to shooting POAs (reducing those against cavalry & armoured knights) make it through play testing?

Thanks.

There is obviously that danger but with some reasonable terrain you should be ok. Just think of the firepower you can muster with all that shot. Pity they were not given bayonets. Re: Ottoman Turks and Early 17th Century Russian, Worth it?

Hi there, New to the ruleset and wondering which of the 2 armies are better open competition armies (if they are at all) A couple queries of mine are: a) I have a FoG A&M Later Ottoman Turkish army, how easy is it to morph this to a competitive FoG:R army and is it worth the costs of getting gu...

OK so at long range you are 3 dice firing on 5s, they are 2 dice on 4s. Both are averaging 1 hit per go, the Swedes have to close the range to get their ++ salvo foot into combat. At close range you should avarage 3 hits ( 6 dice on 4s) against his 2 dice on 4s averaging 1 hit. He would probably ha...

Pursuing from field fortifications and warriors overlapping

I played a game yesterday where I was defending field fortifications. Two of my BGs routed my opponent's two BGs. I didn't pursue as we assumed troops defending didn't have to (not that it would have mattered anyway as it was the last turn) but I was looking for something else in the rules and came ...

Light guns - worth the points or useless?

I tried light guns the other day and came away fairly underwhelmed. 4 bases of them for 48 points made me wish for something else: - dragoons, pike/shot, pretty much anything else. With such a short range - 8 MU - and hitting foot on 5s they seem to be bad value compared to medium guns. Any ideas fo...

Russian "Reiters" are truly a missing piece as no 15mm range I know accurately reproduces their apperance. While the Reiters made use of imported western firearms and armour this was mixed with Russian style equipment such as sabres and armour. The clothing was always in the traditional R...
