Re: New FOGII (April 2018) Campaign Tournament (bbogensc)

I suspect that's also what would be best for me - while I can and would continue, I am increasingly anxious about work stuff so not carrying on is ultimately better for me. I'm not sure if there's any interest in playing one last turn. If so, I'm happy to run it. Otherwise, it's been a pleasure play...

Re: Bowmen unit type

Historically, of course, the sorts of archers represented by the massed non-combat bowmen units were indeed somewhat underwhelming. Previously they were OP. We think they are now balanced historically. Whether their points cost could be tweaked downwards slightly is another question, but we current...

Re: Bowmen unit type

Concentrated fire is key. Some nations cannot field a lot of bowmen units depending on the battle size. If you can't field a lot (3 units), I tend to think they're not useful. I think you're right, but they don't have to all be massed bow units, i.e. they pair well with light foot/horse as well. I'...

Re: New FOGII (April 2018) Campaign Tournament (bbogensc)

Sorry to lose and thanks for the battles we've fought. Hope whatever you're doing goes ok and I'll hopefully see you around again some time :) In view of Martin's departure, I'm wondering what the best course of action is moving forwards. I could put out a call for a replacement player but given tha...

Sorry, you're right, I forgot to check this when I was updating for the battle results. I'll leave the map but I've updated my spreadsheet.

Re: New FOGII (April 2018) Campaign Tournament (bbogensc)

Turn 14 Spanish forces sweep across the coast of the Eastern Mediterranean, winning a number of decisive battles which consolidate Spanish control of the region while a Ptolemaic counter-attack is repelled back to sea. In the Spanish capital of Carthage, however, things are afoot. One Autumn mornin...

Re: New FOGII (April 2018) Campaign Tournament (bbogensc)

Thank Nosy_Rat. I'm going to process the results of the turn and get the next turn up tomorrow evening. Further to my previous post, I'm in no doubt now that I need to drop out of the game, at least in terms of playing. As such, since they seem agreeable, Morbio will take over the Spanish from this ...

Re: Automatic pushback/pursuit with infantry absolutely ruins this game

Again, my suggestion is to have infantry units get progressively disordered as a way to simulate what happened at, say, Pydna (as opposed to pushbacks). At this scale, IMHO, Units really should not be able to advance into an unbroken, healthy unit's frontal ZOC (the three squares to its front). To ...

Re: 500 AD global campaign - Turn 2 battles are up, new players always welcome

It's worth noting that I will sadly have to withdraw from the game following the conclusion of this turn, as I have things ramping up at work which are going to preclude any kind of regular play. I'm really very sorry about this - I'm hoping that with the AI support it won't be too disruptive, but i...

Re: Automatic pushback/pursuit with infantry absolutely ruins this game

There's always the option to simply reduce the probability of push-backs as they start mounting up. If the current probability of five push-backs occurring in an encounter between two units (when the conditions for a push-back are met) is 100%-100%-100%-100%-100%, the propability could be reduced t...

Re: Automatic pushback/pursuit with infantry absolutely ruins this game

I would also note that unless you are in a fight between two superior units and one has a clear upper hand, extreme pushbacks extending longer than one or two squares are actually fairly rare in my experience. The most memorable occasion I can think of was actually during my first multiplayer game,...

Re: New FOGII (April 2018) Campaign Tournament (bbogensc)

Update While the remaining battles are underway, I figured it would be worth outlining some stuff regarding the continuation of the game. Back when I took over running the game, I highlighted that I would likely only be able to do so until September. Well! It turns out we're actually quite far thro...

Re: Automatic pushback/pursuit with infantry absolutely ruins this game

It's worth noting that the proposal would result in some situations where a unit cannot follow up even when it might be sensible for them to. E.g. two infantry units fighting each other alone cannot follow up; and a unit which has been pushed back from a line cannot then itself push back and follow ...

Regardless, I think I will need to withdraw as I'm approaching the busy season of my job and need to keep commitments to a minimum. So if the game does continue, apologies for not being able to come along with it. Thanks to those I played, for my few victories and many defeats!

Re: March mode

It is something we could consider for the future. However, it also makes deployment less critical as it is easier to redeploy. And we do know that historically deployment was indeed critical - e.g. the Battle of Ilipa. While it would be easier for a player to redeploy, their opponent could also clo...
