Re: Operation Compass British Tanks
Perhaps it is because they only had a 3-man crew. They didn't have a loader until the Valentine Mk.III. Funny cuz the French tanks aren't penalized for it. Frankly there's a lot of very weird decisions made for many units in this game. Why is every light cruiser represented by a single, unchanging,...

Re: Allies Defiant Reviews
Bomb Alley is an odd scenario that in some respects comes down to attack damage RNG and the mysterious decision-making systems the AI uses on how to attack targets. If the AI dog-piled the destroyers with every bomber in range rather than spreading their bombers over all the destroyers, the mission ...

Re: Suggestion for Specializations that give Vet on Purchase
If you lose a unit and reform it, it will always have at least one star just like a new unit. It doesn't affect already purchased units though.

Re: Allies Defiant Reviews
Hurricanes were used throughout the war and the question of which plane was superior is still very much up for grabs. I'd like to see them with the same air defense and the attack values as the point of differentiation (Hurricanes better atk against heavy bombers, Spitfires better atk against light...

Re: Allies Defiant Reviews
I agree, and I honestly don't love it. It certainly isn't historical! If the Hurricane had just slightly better air defense on its models it'd be a perfectly viable pick. The economic/production reasons why the Hurricane initially had to be relied on can't be replicated in a wargame unless they wan...

Re: Allies Defiant Reviews
Your first mistake ole boy is to assume that OOB units conform to their historical counterparts. Though the Beaufighter excelled in ground attack and naval attack in real life it sucks at both in the game because some dev got it in his head he didn’t want it that way. You were doubly screwed becaus...

Re: Allies Defiant Reviews
You should never have used the Beaufighters, they are quite terrible. A mix of Spitfires and Strategic Bombers will get you through the entire campaign without issue. Well, they're the only ground attack planes the British have until they get the Typhoon. And I had no problems with them until Tobru...

Re: Allies Defiant Reviews
I had absolutely no problems in this campaign until I hit Tobruk. Until then I had used two Beaufighters for ground attack with the intention of upgrading them to Typhoons later, but that scenario absolutely seems to require all your deployed planes be Spitfires or you simply won't down planes fast ...

Re: Force Composition Talk
I can comfortably play on difficulty 5 but I don't because I consider 3 to be....I dunno, "fair"? Everyone gets 10 points, everyone's units are as durable as each other, the difference is the AI has way more units but I have higher income. Since it's my favorite, let's go with Jungle. In an ideal wo...

Re: Order of Battle: World War II - OoB
Regiments and brigades are the largest unit size it makes much sense for the units to represent, as things like AA or Artillery divisions were niche units that few countries used, and some unit types (like AT guns or Recon units), as far as I know, have never, ever been used at a division scale befo...

Re: Combined arms.
A combined arms approach is safest, in the sense you have a bunch of cannon fodder with artillery backup to take the big hits for you. Using an actual panzer corps can work, you just have to be really careful that you don't, say, run into an ambush and lose half a veteran tank unit that has a repair...

Re: Favourite DLC
The original campaigns, since they actually have naval combat (but unlike Kriegsmarine, aren't just that). If I wanted to invade Russia with a panzer corps again I'd just play....well, Panzer Corps. All the DLC since Kriegsmarine has been totally land focused and except for Burma Road and Sandstorm,...

Re: Order of Battle: Allies Defiant - Announced
Yeah I'm not sure why there's not enough naval battles to warrant core naval units. Given Norway and the Med are part of this campaign there's more than enough naval battles for you to include. The lack of naval battles seems to be a deliberate choice - why it was made, well, perhaps the devs will e...

Re: Tell me about Difficulty
Can one of you devs explain why level 5 gives enemies 13 HP instead of 14? Since level 1 is basically impossible to lose, then likewise even if 14 would make level 5 impossible to win I don't see how that's really a problem.

Re: Tell me about Difficulty
In short if you aren't using strats you're missing out on one of the most potent tools in the toolkit. Their advantages take too long to come to fruition, especially in newer campaigns which have fewer turns than old ones. The only campaign where I use strats is Burma since the British don't really...

Re: Tell me about Difficulty
Strategic bombers aren't a luxury unit, tactical bombers are. Tactical bombers without precision strike are so worthless as to not merit inclusion in a force. Strategic bombers, like artillery, are mandatory. That's the thing though, dive bombers (tactical bombers with precision strike) are rather ...

Re: Tell me about Difficulty
Is it me or are the earlier DLC's harder, more puzzle like and scarce in credits (Panzer Krieg, US Pacific, Marines) or am I just being silly (again). I just think the Red Star, Red Storm series found the perfect balance. What was the question again? It depends on what you mean by "puzzle-like". Ne...

Re: U.S. Marines Campaign DLC is a Lot of Fun
Have you played the two original campaigns?
Nothing they've ever released since has ever compared to them, in terms of combining air, naval and land combat not just within one campaign (there are several scenarios without land units at all) but even within one mission (Guadalcanal comes to mind).

Re: Question about previous campaigns
It's hard to disagree with that In addition, an appropriate balance between units, because in the last scenarios of US Pacific vanilla game I used all slots for land and air units, but I had 19 free CPs for naval units The US campaign needs way more Japanese air units at Leyte, Okinawa and Tokyo. T...

Re: Question about previous campaigns
The Japanese minisub in in the US Pearl Harbor scenario seems to sit in the channel rather than entering the harbor and will try to ambush the last battleship when it tries to leave the map. The Pacific campaigns need an overhaul. Not only are they far too condensed (they span 4 years in only 12 sce...
