Re: Slitherine price vs Steam

If price is the same, I prefer to buy from the publisher rather than steam

Re: Phalanx/Heavies defense/offense ratings

I may not be best placed to join this thread because I haven't bought the game - yet! :? The main advantage of the phalanx was its mass and solidarity. The hoplite system required very well-trained toops relied very much on pushing ( a bit like a battering ram) and the phalanx was simply the end of ...

Re: Empires Discount for Field of Glory II Players

Slitherine / Matrix is interchangeable. The stores share the same backend so either is fine. The only reason we don't completely merge it is some people would have a heart attack if either the Slitherine or Matrix name / logo disappeared :) I would only have a heart attack if the combined outfit us...

Re: Ptolemies never accept Athenian treaties

PavelK wrote"in today's world - Germany can consider Crete to be a good diplomatic partner, but they are not going to go to mutually equally military pact" Hmm - they have actually because Crete is part of Greece which is in NATO as is Germany. Luxembourgh also has a mutual, reciprocal mil...

Re: Settlers.

I prefer to buy nomads to build new cities (they are only 5 gold + 10 men as opposed to 10 and 10 for settlers). I keep the latter for road building unless I have a surplus of them in which case the 8 gold and 8 men for selling them is often a better option

Re: Matrix thread.

Slightly OT but I've just done my 1st ever review on Metacritic. Reviews there tend to be a little more grown up than some of the ones on Steam

Not many others there yet (mine is no.6) but game averages 8.8/10

Enemy seahorses

I sometimes see enemy cavalry running across the sea before coming ashore. I haven't been quick enough to take a picture of it yet. Looks quite funny and it would be sad in a way to debug this

Noob playing tips

I thought I would start a thread for these because the game can be a bit frustrating at first if you don't know what to do and I'm not into watching long you tube excerpts. This is partly because I live in the middle of the french countryside where broadband is poor, and partly as it can take a lot ...

Re: Impressive game

I seem to be getting the hang of it now and won as Carthaginians on hard in only 80 turns - not sure how tho'. Everyone just seemed to want to federate me for some reason. Rome and Ptolomaic took much longer.

Re: Matrix thread.

I too post a lot on Matrix, partly because my other games are on their forums and partly because I find their forums slightly easier to use (tho' not sure why and it might be historic like I am). I also prefer to buy matrix /slith games from matrix but that means I can't post review on steam

I see that Blathergut was trying Iberians on heroic level! He had obviously forgotten to take his meds that day, or perhaps too many :o

I can only defer to your expertise. I live up to my name....................

Re: Impressive game

Many thanks for the quick reply Pavel. I'm sure that there is room for a lot more excellence in my play. I have over 50 years of gaming experience (miniatures and strategy games) but only a couple of weeks with this game. However, on the "doom in 10 years" thread about the Iberians in the ...

Impressive game

By any standards, let alone from a small outfit. The AI is annoyingly aggressive (as it should be) and the systems work well. The UI is very easy to use and the flexibility around the options is excellent. I personally hate random events in any game, though that's probably a mniority opinion,so a bi...

Re: Pike & Shot Sillyflower V Manstein63 new game

I'm not good at computers (rubbish actually) but don't think I am. I won't be if these require me to do something to use them :). I have this game on steam if that answers your qu. Not using any mods. I have a separate but possibly related problem. For the last few weeks it has been very difficult t...
