Re: Attacker/Defender Determination Makes No Sense

If the enemy started his turn in the region, then chances are big that he will be the defender. Provided he did not arrive at the last impulse of the previous turn and you don't manage to arrive before impulse 4 of the next turn. Otherwise we are within the limits of 'nobody is settled in the regio...

Re: Bactrian Decadence

After reading your posts I thought I'd give them a try. Do you give up the vassal status and if so when? Thanks. I have not done so yet. I know from experience dealing with the Seleucids in the past, that about a dozen turns in, they get into a big war with the Mauryans. And since I was getting obj...

Re: Provincial Units Infographic - Full List

Is there any plan to include FoG 2 unit translation information to this list of provincial units? I ask because now that I'm doing more export battles, I'm seeing some nice advantages to certain provincial units. For example, Osroene Cavalry look like a regular unit of skirmish cavalry, but when you...

Re: Bactrian Decadence

Having a lot of fun using their early army roster of armored hoplites + sparabara. Nice combination of units and pretty unique compared to other factions I've played. At some point, though, I'll probably want to transition to the army roster that you can see in FoG2 which features lancers and a few ...

Re: Bactrian Decadence

It's mostly a comparison thing. It's fine if they're outnumbered by Persian and Nomad pops, but having just a single Greek pop seems a bit low when compared to the others. That combined with a relative lack of buildings compared to other Greek colonies. Bactria was fairly rich and urbanized when Ale...

Re: Bactrian Decadence

Looking around a bit at the other factions, Bactria starts out with a fairly small treasury and one of the smallest Greek populations of the Greek factions. Cyrene, the Bosporus, Massilia, and Emporium all have larger Greek pops at the start. Heck, even Colchis and Illyria have larger starting amoun...

Re: Bactrian Decadence

put all of your people in culture and see if it helps. You have to give it some turns as an average over some turns are used. I put quite a few, but most of the pops are non-Greek, and thus generate less culture. You only have one or two greek pops at the start. And then there's the issue that all ...

Bactrian Decadence

Is there any way for Bactria not to immediately fall into the bottom tier of the CDR list and then stay there for most of the early game? I've played a few times now, and I have yet to find a way out of the bottom culture tier. Is this intentional? Having Bactria of all places decline into an Old Mo...

Re: Attacker/Defender Determination Makes No Sense

If you move an army into a region with a walled city, then you lay siege to the city. This is what you described. If an enemy army moves into the region, then you are the defender and the enemy is attempting to lift the siege. Can we agree on that? The enemy army was already there. You ignored it b...

Re: Attacker/Defender Determination Makes No Sense

What? That still makes no sense. How can I move into an enemy territory and be considered the defender while the army that started it's turn there is considered the attacker? This is why having a system of behind the scenes "impulses" and random rolls is not intuitive for players and makes things mo...

Re: Attacker/Defender Determination Makes No Sense

As far as naval warfare is concerned: General Initiative determines the sea region combat takes place in. The general with higher Initiative will be the Attacker, and the other the Defender. In addition to the other terrain types, all generals will have values for Sea Attack and Sea Defend. Similarl...

Attacker/Defender Determination Makes No Sense

Situation: I attack out of Melitene in Comagene with an Antigonid army of 200 power with a 2-2 general. The Seleucids are in Mygdonia, Osroene with an army of 160 power led by a 2-1 general. By attacking, I am hoping that I will have my general's 2 ability vs. the enemy's 1 ability and take full adv...

Re: Unit Stats during Export Battles

No. The only units that have such special conversions are horse archers and Republican Roman legions . Gotcha. Currently trying to solve my lack of lancers by progressing to empire and praying for the Castrum Cataphractae to come up, and trying to make friends with Steppe factions so that they'll s...

Re: Unit Stats during Export Battles

Ok. Was just wondering if the conversion formula for some units from FoGE (like say Cavalry) would result in 1 unit of Armored Cavalry and 1 unit of Xystophoroi when exporting to FoG2.

Re: Unit Stats during Export Battles

Fascinating. It really is quite impressive how well the two games fit together via the (optional) battle system. The computer-generated battle results are rarely too far off from what I can do myself manually exporting. Next slightly random question: In FoG2, Epirus has access to Xystophoroi as part...

Unit Stats during Export Battles

Been a little while since I last played, but I'm finally getting into the import/export battle mechanic, which is pretty fun. However, I'm a little stymied by why it seems like the AI units always have better morale during the battle exported to FoG2. For a bunch of battles now, my units have been "...

As pompeytheflatulent points out, that only applies to Impact, not Melee.
Gah, that's what I get for not playing the game regularly for two months. I forget everying.

Thanks, makes sense now.

Deep Pike Bonus

I haven't been on the forum in a while, but last I checked, the Deep Pike bonus for phalanx units is disabled by Stream terrain, right? Deep Pike is conditioned on open terrain, which streams specifically say are Not Open. So why (FoG: Empires export battle) am I seeing this pike getting the Deep Pi...

Naval Sieges and Big Ships

Been reading Age of Titans: Rise and Fall of the Great Hellenistic Navies, and it's got me to wondering if maybe Warship and Large Ship classes should have more interaction with siege mechanics. For those who haven't read the book, one of the key dynamics in warship development from the Peloponnesia...
