Re: Classical Antiquity Division D, just wow!

The offensive spearmen haven't enough power to beat them. Even on a hill like my battle. Maybe you should set a trap... Depends on the Samnites. The veteran samnites will require either an average pike or a veteran hoplites to defeat in melee (if they survive the impact). Heavy infantry in the open...

Re: Classical Antiquity Division D, just wow!

After the league matches are done, we have to set up friendly matches to test out things. I know for sure I need to learn how to counter those darn samnite medium infantries :? If any of you feisty Div D folk want a practice match, I'm up for it as Div A is proceeding at nice slow and stately pace....

Re: What is the Historical/Concrete Explanation for How Lancers are typically used?

Nope the danger to the lancers is not passing cohesion checks. Even crappy average lancers get +50 POA when charged frontally by superior infantry. The danger to the lancers happen when the charging infantry gets disrupted on impact leading the lancers to decide to stick around in melee, and subseq...

Re: What is the Historical/Concrete Explanation for How Lancers are typically used?

Except that due to secondary zoc one unit of Lancers can delay multiple infantry units. I hadn't really thought of that, perhaps you could do a lancer every other space and hold up infantry with a 2 to 1 ratio? at least for awhile, if there's an opening they can drive you back with one inf charge a...

Re: What is the Historical/Concrete Explanation for How Lancers are typically used?

Typically, or perhaps simply quite often, lancers are used in the following way: Pull them up to the enemy infantry line, facing (hopefully) the best enemy infantry, giving those infantry the option of either a) charging the lancers at disadvantage, in which case they will likely lose the impact, t...

Re: Early Middle Ages: winners post your results here . . .

Division A Geffalrus (Indians) defeats Sennacherib (Franks) 32-14 via surrender on the field. On a wide open field, both armies spent most of the match maneuvering - the Indians wanted to get around the pesky Frankish flanks, while the Franks formed a giant croissant to try and prevent that. To brea...

Re: Classical Antiquity: winners post your results here . . .

Division A Geffalrus (Macedonians) defeats Sennacherib (Thracians) 27-3 via surrender on the field. Uninterested in attacking uphill into the Thracian pikes, hoplites, and lancers on the right flank, the Macedonian army force marched to the left flank to corner the Thracian cavalry and light foot li...

Then that has probably changed in some patch, because that was the official answer to the question: https://steamcommunity.com/app/660160/discussions/0/1484358860946902806/ Also, I have never failed to make a non-light cavalry evade a charge from rear or flank with light cavalry, and I quite often ...

Re: Classical Antiquity: winners post your results here . . .

Division A Geffalrus (Macedon) defeated Cunningcairn (Hannibal in Italy) 47-20 While much of the battlefield featured flat, open terrain, both armies were immediately mesmerized by a small, tall hill in the left-center of the map. Both armies sent in their best troops, and a furious struggle ensued ...

How do I install this beta on the steam version? The install procedure asks for the serial number that I don't have because I got the game on steam.

Does the new 1.5.24 Open Beta released today need to be installed for the tournament? I would imagine everyone needs to have the same version of the game as there are some rule changes ie multiple zoc's.
Holy sheeeeeet I didn't notice that. Time to switch my army choices a bit!

Re: The Rally Point (discussion and questions)

I didn't want to say anything in thread, but there are some Classical army-ally combos that I can't find. So not sure if it's a translation/typo mistake or something, or if I missed a rule that added in the TT mod.

Messaging devoncop on steam. Based on comments from last season, he might be angling for a break from the action, but hopefully he still wants to be involved.

Re: A Guide to the True Rules of FoGII

If you play well, you will generally win, even against the odds... but that won't stop the game from giving you several unnecessary heart attacks along the way. Your elite units fighting downhill will get a freak double morale drop and lose the battle for you, and then your militia will fight on fi...
