If the artillery is a two stand BG it must take two casualties to test for stand loss. But even with one hit it must take a cohesion test. And it would break if a stand is removed. At least that is how we play

Re: Escape from Aliso – Germania scenario
Great game report !! Interesting ... We played a FoG game of Germans v. Principate last Saturday inspired by the Warlord "Germania" book. Tiberius led his legions on a pay-back campaign. I will post a few pictures if I can figure out how to. It is good to see a battle report. I was wondering if anyo...

Re: does anyone use 28mm?
We play 28mm also. I have played both with 1"=1MU and 40mm=1MU. Locally we use a 6x4 table and normally use 650 to 700 point armies. 1"=1MU gives a good game on that sized table with those sized armies. Bigger games on bigger tables tend to work better at 40mm. I agree the shooting ranges seem odd g...

Re: How to defeat pikemen
We play Seleucids vs. MRR a lot. The two armies give a great game and offer a lot of different BG types. I find that Superior Armored Romans in BG's of 8 do well against pike. They have staying power. Add in a General and you have a good chance to win. Once the pike phalanx gets "hurt" the tide turn...

Re: Shot at by Firearms
This, sadly, is what is wrong with tournaments. You (1) Determine how many dice you get (2) Select your target (3) Roll the dice to see the effect, if any, of the fire. Simple ... Not complicated ... The target gets the CT modifier ... Not a BG that could have been the target, or might have been the...

Re: Pre-set terrain
We always use pre-set terrain for our games. But we rarely play in tournaments. We try to set up a battlefield that is (1) represntative of the location we are battling in (2) does not offer a significant advanatge to either side. This Sunday we are fighting a Peloponnesian battle; Athenians vs Spar...

Re: Early Successor
Not enough mounted IMHO ... The Successor armies are so good because they have no real weaknesses. They had good heavy troops ... good mounted troops, good LF and a good shopping list for other BGs. Against historical opponents a Successor army is a tough opponent. Against some sort of fantasy oppon...

What Size For LRR Legionary BGs?
I am getting ready to play a series of games: Caesar vs a variety of Gallic, German and British barbarians. My opponent usually fields his warriors in 12s. I used to have 4-stand legionary BGs but have swirtched to 8s for V2 games. I was curious what other players were doing with legionaries? Of cou...

Re: Later Seleucid Power Version
I fail to see how using scythed chariots in our games in any manner other than their intended historical use is a positive for historical gaming in any setting. Why not use that "grey matter" to try to get the most out of them using them as they were used historically?? There in lies the real "art" ...

Re: Later Seleucid Power Version
We have changed to using 12 stand pike BGs. 8's are just too brittle. The Seleucid army is a fun army to play ... lots of options, cool units and great fodder for the Scipio brothers to beat up on. We always use scythed chariots. The models are just too pretty to leave in the box. We have never used...

Re: Later Seleucid 900 points
The optimum size of pike BGs is an interesting discussion. I started playing with 8 stand BGs ... but that limits dice to "4" per combat. 10 stand BGs, while a little more resiliant, still only offer 4 dice assuming a 2x5 set up. 12 figure BGs offer 6 dice in combat but can suffer was the bases are ...

Re: Spartans
I actually like the way Spartans are depicted in the army list. By not overpowering then (and over pricing them) a Spartan army is compatable size-wise with other Classical Greek armies. Like many of the army lists, superior Spartans are an ellegant was to model the army. As for battles against the ...

Elephants and Commanders
Can a Commander not mounted on an elephant "command" an elephant BG? I am having a V2 brain-fart ... Specifically, can a commander depicted as mounted on a horse rally a broken elephant BG? I seem to remember a V2 rule that only commanders mounted on elephants can "command" elephant BGs? Can't find ...

Re: First v2 games
Speaking of first V2 games ... We played LRR vs Gallic this past Saturday. We ended up with just under 700 points per side and fought (28mm) on a 6x4 table. We use 1"= 1MU. 1. We do not use the terrain set-up portion of the game so I cannot comment on that. We take turns setting up a table based on ...

Re: V2 books in stock
Got my book in the mail yesterday (Ohio USA). Weird, it was shipped from Oregon USA??? But it arrived in pristine condition, no dents or crinkled corners. It was packed in cardboard. Overall I am very pleased with the book, and thanks for providing us an old-fashioned option for V2. If the pr...

Re: First V2 game, Romans vs Germans
Nice battle report ... Did you use the changes to impact in V2? For 28mm around 650 points is good on a 6x4 table. If we go much over that we use a larger table. When you use anything other than 1"=1MU, the game changes significantly. I don't think the game was designed for the manuver that is allow...
