Re: Unmovable ships ?

@rbodleyscott : Thx for this explanatory reply :-) It totally makes sense. Simulating wind, currents, weather gauge, type of ammunition (grape…), sail profiles (fore-and-aft riggers vs square-riggers) in Age of sail turn-based tactical combat game must be indeed challenging ! There are currently som...

Re: Unmovable ships ?

@Cronos09 : very interesting ! Thank you !!! I will try (as soon as I have more time for it...). It'll be particularly interesting to tweak the number of squares sailing ships will be able to move per turn (something I already wondered when playing with the map editor and jomni's galleys). I guess S...

Re: Free Web Resources - reference books

To those who play P&S and like the Renaissance period : the Château de Chambord (constructed by king Francis I of France) will celebrate its 500th anniversary on 6 September 2019 ! :-) https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/1/18/ChateauChambordArialView01.jpg/320px-ChateauChambordArial...

H. DREVILLON, O. WIEVIORKA, Histoire militaire de la France, 1 - Des Mérovingiens au Second Empire. (ie. Re: Why no Tours/Poitiers?

My understanding is that the Frankish position was protected on its flanks by thick woods, particularly on the left. They took up their position across the Roman road and the Arabs advanced up that same Roman road. That's a viable interpretation. And your map is very nice ! :-) btw as the exact loc...

Re: Why no Tours/Poitiers?

The Arabian horsemen may have attacked frontally the Frankish infantry as the Chronicle of 754 states that "The northern peoples remained as immobile as a wall, holding together like a glacier in the cold regions." But, in this case, why ? Because the Arabs could not flank their enemies or because t...

Re: Future DLC?

What about a naval DLC with naval units (Galleys and such) and sea/costal/island maps for naval battles and mixed battles (naval+land) ?

I imagine the pre-Rise of Persia time period will be covered in single DLC.
I must admit I don't know our knowledge and sources about the armament of the period and what the devs want to do about it but still the period covers 1800-2000 years (2500 BC - 681 BC)...

My bet about the next DLC ? After Wolves at the Gate, back to the past with the period before 681 BC (Rise of Persia), slowly heading towards the Minoans, Mycenaean Greece, Ancient Egypt... https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/1/11/Geometric_krater_Met_14.130.14_n03.jpg/216px-Geometr...

Re: Two Suggestions for a future version...

Another one : an opportunity fire button.

Right now, when a unit of ours is hidden in the woods and an enemy is passing by, it automatically fires revealing itself. What about an option to remain hidden and choosing when firing ?

Re: Two Suggestions for a future version...

I think we will have to agree to disagree on this matter! Indeed. I agree :-) I agree that cavalry should be fast moving and unpredictable, but that is catered for in FOG2 by pursuers ignoring all ZOCs. insufficient IMHO (once again it's just an opinion) A little suggestion for a possible future P&...

Re: Two Suggestions for a future version...

@AEWHistory and Paul 59 : very interesting suggestions ! I like it when P&S forum is alive. Some thoughts, just my 2 cents : 2) Secondary ZOCs, as per FOG2. In P&S it is remarkable easy to manoeuver around enemy units, this is because of the lack of secondary ZOCs, and contributes to the fragmentati...

Is there any plan for an official FoG Napoleonics?
Not currently.
What if we broaden the scope of this question to the periods from say the 16th century to the 18th century ('P&S 2' and/or 'FoG 18th century' or a mix)? :)

Re: So P&S is a wonderful game, can we move it...

While I also appreciate the massed look of the formations in Pike and Shot, I also enjoyed the detailed miniature style of FOG2. (...) Finally, Pike and Shot is on an old engine, and, while its graphical style is appealing, FOG2's higher poly graphics probably appeal to a wider audience, making dev...

Re: Unmovable ships ?

The battle of Solent (July 1545) An interesting use of the galleys This battle is an unsuccessful attempt to invade England made by the French that took place during the Italian Wars. The French used their galleys as "skirmishers" (or as a kind of naval "Forlorn hope") against the immobile English ...

Re: Unmovable ships ?

Actually, on second thoughts, I wonder if jomni has made any changes to the Lepanto game scripts that might prevent land units working? It might be a good idea to contact him and ask. At first glance, it seems to work ! But I'm a newcomer to the game, so I am not sure about the behavior of the unit...

Re: Unmovable ships ?

I don't see why you can't delete the references to the scenarios in the CAMPAIGN.txt, but leave all the other text. If it is just for private use, you can do anything you want. But if you were going to post any new scenarios for the community to download it would be good form to send a pm to jomni ...
