Re: Scoring system for 2019 - Call for a vote...

OK, forget 2015. I've now looked at the very first FOG ranking table, from April 2012. The facts and figures are even worse than the 2015 ones I quoted. No fewer than 30 of the current ADLG top 50 are ex-FOG. 28 of these have improved table positions over their FOG ones and almost HALF have improve...

Re: Britcon 2019 - What would you like to do?

For me an IC is a given because of the opportunity for deploy second move first. And more importantly if I don't take an IC my opponent probably will so I'm likely to deploy first and move second which is a huge disadvantage. Even at 800 points an IC is still a given for me. If the points increased ...

Re: The new scoring system...

Good luck on convincing somebody who has won all four of their games at a comp and doesn't finish top that they should come back... Phil has correctly described the way to determine a handicap. At the running club I attend this is essentially how handicaps are calculated. However when a race is hel...

Re: The new scoring system...

I don't enter enough competitions to get a good ranking score so I shall look forward to my handicap.

Re: The new scoring system...

Why do people enter competitions? Or perhaps a better question would be why do new and mediocre players enter competitions? Is it because they enjoy competitive games? Or is it because they want to play some games against people they haven't played before or don't play often? Top players like compet...

Re: Sliding when conforming...

To further add clarity.

If a base is in contact with two bases then it slides the shortest distance to conform.
This sometimes means that a base at one end that was in contact with only one base slides into an overlap position.

Re: A lament for Steppes...

Fair comment Peter. But then what's the point of listing Steppes at all? Perhaps, so that when both armies want steppe it can be chosen? The same question could be asked of why list Tropical? Indeed given that 90 % of games take place in agricultural anyway, why not simplify the terrain choices dow...

Re: A lament for Steppes...

That's because neither army wanted any terrain. There were a couple of additional pieces on the right of the table that you can't see. The difference, is that if the infantry army had wanted lot's of terrain, he could have had it and there is nothing the mounted army can do about it apart from to h...

Here's an example of non-steppe terrain that looks like steppe

How do mounted armies manage with so much terrain?

Re: A lament for Steppes...

I've played a lot of V3 games as well. None of them involved steppes as a terrain choice. However some of them involved very little terrain or what terrain there was pushed into the corners out of the way. The result is a table that steppe loving armies would be quite happy with, even though steppes...

Re: BHGS Scoring System for FoG V3

The 35-0 option without plus 5 for camp isn't available
Which is why I voted for 30-0, because I agree that giving 5 extra points for sacking the enemy camp MIGHT lead to defensive play.

Re: Pursuing into Fresh enemy

That's all fine if they CONTACT the enemy.
I don't think the situation described is a legal charge contact though.

I'm not sure about wheeling to avoid the enemy you can't contact but they can wheel to pursue the routers which may well end up being the same thing.

Re: Support Shooting POA - V3

this doesn't need an erratum Oh yes it does if you want it to be actually played that way. As written right now the only sensible interpretation is that LF don't suffer a -POA. If that is not the intention it needs to be in the errata. This is the sort of thing that puts new players off. You read a...

That's the way I interpreted it.
LF don't suffer a -POA.

If that's not right it needs to be in the errata

Re: Version 3 Errata

I am happy with that interpretation, but it needs to be made official and put in the errata. The errata needs to make it clear that the pictures are not correct. To compound this problem Terry has defended the pictures in this thread saying they are correct, which unfortunately still leaves this iss...

Re: 1 per 2...

Madness is the sequence of events as they are now. 7 base BG looses a melee. Throw for base loss Remove base Now work out CT. -1 for 25 % losses Now put the base back that you removed, work out 1HP2 Now take the base off again Now work out the result of the CT. I understand the reasoning behind want...

Re: Version 3 Errata

All I would like clarifying is that normal moves, charges and evades are measured the same way?

Is this the way you and I measure normal moves?
Or is it the way shown for the evade in the picture on page 65 titled "Final Position"?

Thank you
Peter

Thanks Graham for the clear sequence, but with all due respect, it's madness
