Re: Something I like very much

I really like Pandora's treatment of resources as well. The Civ games always had me searching for hills/rivers, etc. Whereas, the best city placement in Pandora seems to be lots of grasslands (for food) and mountains (for minerals), as well as a bonus resource or two, with hills and forest being lar...

Re: Interesting dilemma

The mechanic for this is already in place. Pollution should lead to increasing attacks by native life. Alpha Centauri was the same. Interestingly, one Green strategy in AC was to pollute like mad because, with the right social engineering upgrades, you could tame a slew of mind worms, and basically ...

Re: First hour

Initially, I accepted the research pacts. Then, thanks to your hints, I realized that the AI was basically telling me that I was ahead of them in tech, or had a better economy, so tended to refuse. Likewise another faction with better tech, i.e. University tend to refuse my requests for for research...

Re: First hour

Thanks for your reply. Makes a lot of sense. There's a queen sitting on those flowers with a production bonus near my base. So, the research pact could be useful.

First hour

In the first 30 minutes of my first *productive* hour, I restarted the game about 20 times until I got a map that seemed OK, i.e. plentiful resources, especially food, and bonuses, in a relatively defensible location, not too close to the AI player. This restarting is anathema to the 4x genre. Civil...

First 20 minutes

I didn't really care for PC games until Civilization 3, and then Alpha Centauri, and after that Civilization 4 and 5. After Civ 5, I also didn't care for Firaxis. As I still hope to play the genre to death, I have high hopes Pandora is more strategic then Firaxis' offerings. I really liked the old A...

Re: Yet another updater crash!

Hmph, well I can't do much about that :? It's a Sony Vaio, and from what I can tell AMD doesn't have a newer driver, nor does Sony.

Edit: It appears that AMD had a package on their website that did the trick (without Sony's blessing). I updated the driver, and Pandora launched OK.

Re: Yet another updater crash!

I've never had a driver problem. My laptop isn't awesome, but I can play Starcraft 2, etc. with pretty good graphic settings. As for background processes, I've never had an issue with those before either. I check periodically, and only have those running that I consider essential. Having said that, ...

Yet another updater crash!

I was really looking forward to trying Pandora out over coffee this morning. But, as it seems many people have reported, there seem to be unresolved issues with the Pandora Updater. I use Clam AV, and the Windows 7 built-in firewall. First attempt: 1) Turned Clam AV off. 2) Clicked on Pandora Beta. ...
