Re: 1 per 2...
Just as background, we'd asked a few ex players why they'd drifted away from the game. A number said that they found that close combat frequently dragged on too long. We've all had the "3 feet of combat and it feels like all the files are on different factors" situation. This was certainl...

Re: The future of FOG-AM competitions...
I used to play Fog:AM quite a bit (never in competitions, though I have played in DBM comps). I also used to play Fog:R quite a bit. Our games were mostly 650 points or so in 28mm, on a 6 x 4 table. We had trouble finishing a battle in an evening's gaming. So we tried Sword & Spear (which is qui...

Re: FOGAM3
One thing which really slows down FoG (both v1 and v2) is what happens when units end up unaligned with each other in a big melee. (I have bad memories of a Plataea refight where the Greeks and Persians were exactly one base out of alignment when they collided in a long line) You have to work out al...

Re: Sweet spot...
In both DBM and FoG, the solution is to play with fewer points on a smaller table (or fewer points with 28mm figures).
But for some reason players are averse to doing that; I think some tournament players are more concerned with not losing than getting a decisive result.

Re: How important is physical depiction? New to game
Hi, Just getting into this game, and I was wondering how the basing works. In the basic rulebook the Carthaginian army for Hannibal lists 4 x Numidian Calvary, and under that again, it lists 4 x Numidian Calvary. does this mean 2 bases with 4 figures each? It seems like that is the case, and if so,...

I guess you might want to follow the evaders if it puts you a bit further away from a threatening enemy unit.

Re: Interpenetration
Gosh if a person will abandon a rule set just because they don't like one of the rules areas, erm....... :? It's not that uncommon. Dave Madigan didn't like it because of interception charges so doesn't play it. And lots of poeple disliked the DBM "buttocks of death" Some people wouldn't ...

I think he can leave in the JAP as normal, assuming he survives the roll to see if he dies.

Re: Basic Question re Death Rolls
Can you tell me where in the rules this is explained? Not the procedure for taking death rolls, but the conditions that cause them. There is an example, and between that and the wording of the test its not clear that all shooting hits necessarily cause death rolls. Well, looking at the first 3 inde...

Re: Basic Question re Death Rolls
I've played this rule set about 6 or 7 times so far and it's not clear to me exactly what events call for a BG to take a Death Roll. Can anybody tell me? Thanks, Mike Taking hits, either from shooting or hand to hand combat. If you roll <= the number of hits you took, remove a base. If you take hit...

Re: Melees with Multiple Battle Groups (V1)
If the target is only two deep and you can't make a flank or rear charge as defined by the rules, then you can't charge at all.
You can move into an overlap position, but there will be no impact, and you'll just contribute an overlap in the melee phase.

Re: Question re moving back 2 MU's.
This means if you are foolish enough to flank march with cavalry into a difficult river you can actually get on table. Just deploy in single rank facing off table and CMT to move backwards 2 MU. Voila. Wish I'd thought of that a couple of years ago. Obviously it's easier to get horses into the rive...

Re: does anyone use 28mm?
We use 28mm, and we use 30mm=1MU.
1 inch is too short, and we tried 40mm but found it a bit long for a 6x4 table.
30mm has the merit of being half a base width, so the restricted area is one base width.

Re: New Yorker Article on Linothorax armor
The artworks show some sort of stiff non-metallic armour - you can see the shoulder pieces standing up before they are laced down.
The armour is painted white.
That could be layers of glued linen, or it could be painted leather - there's no way to tell from the artwork alone.
