Re: Rule Tweaks for 2020

At the Wessex we adopted most of the dragoons rules changes but we always gave them a full evade move even if charged within 6". Seemed daft if you had a nag you wouldn't use it to get the hell out of Dodge if needed.

Re: Bursting through FOGAM2/FOGR

Thanks Graham, that kind of clarifies it. The only point we seem to differ on with you is that the evaders are destroyed. If a BG is forced to burst through and there is no room beyond it is destroyed as per page 51. I think the "cannot complete an evade move by any of the above, move as far as...

Re: Oxford competitions 2020

We are into our third year of an internal club FOGR competition that runs the whole twelve months. If you win you get the "Renaissance Cup" which is a small silver trophy engraved with the winners name to keep until the next year!

So yes give a trophy!

Bursting through FOGAM2/FOGR

I asked this question following a FOGR game on that forum two weeks ago but no responses yet so as the rules appear the same in FOGAM2 I am asking here in the hope of enlightenment: A unit of LH evades a charge directly to it's rear where it meests a friendly mounted cavalry BG at roughly right angl...

Bursting through

Had a situation today that we could not agree on so diced for it. A unit of LH evades a charge directly to it's rear where it meests a friendly mounted cavalry BG at roughly right angles to it as it is facing enemy LH to it's own front. The evading LH obviously cannot interpenetrate so they shift si...

Re: Oxford Events 2019 - Colonial Sunday June 9th

Currently Cavalry on making a CMT and if in a line, ie one deep, can make a 180 degree turn, move up to 2MU and then make a 180 degree turn to face the original way. I will also allow them to do the following (As its less movement than the CMT gives them and seems strange they have to do the second...

Re: retiring when fragmented

Agreed that turning does not usually get you closer to the enemy. But the bit I was reading was on page 149 regarding fragmented troops where it says " a simple move to retire away from all enemy within 12 MU but must CMT for any other move". So turning in itself doesn't get you away from ...

retiring when fragmented

Rarely comes up but when it did we ended up with different interpretations: 1.If fragmented you can retire facing the enemy as a simple move as long as you end up further away from all enemy within 12MU. 2. As above but first you have to turn and then move away in subsequent turns unless of course y...

Fighting whilst in contact with routers

Had an unusual situation today, for us anyway, where an enemy unit broke during Impact and in the pursuit the winners contacted a fresh enemy with a base and remained in contact with routers with another base whilst maintaining unit integrity. During the melee phase can the winners count the base in...

Re: Britcon 2018

Not so sure of that. Indeed some people are at our club who are really interested in Eastern Europe but the majority are still using FOGR. My feeling is that the rules will continue very nicely at club level, albeit in different forms depending on your opinion of the changes, but seems to be slowly ...

Re: Southampton 2018 confirmed now CANCELLED

Sorry all but we did not appear to be getting the same level as support as last year with even our local players having other commitments. So before I ran into the booking cancellation fee period for the hall I had to make a decision about the likely viability of the event and decided to cancel.

Southern League Southampton 2018...or not?

Time is fast approaching when we have to book a venue if we are going to do a round of the league in 2018. Last year we dodged a bullet because the new amendments were still under discussion but now they have been officially adopted for competitions and therein lies a quandary. Problem I have is tha...

Confusingly there are the "Wessex Wargamers of Winchester", also based in Hampshire, but the Wessex Wargames Society has been going for a wee bit longer just having hit the 50th anniversary mark.

Re: Why no shooting weapons for Elizabethan light horse?

No idea myself but don't forget one of the design philosophies of FOG is about how the troops behaved and not necessarily what they were armed with. Parthians cataphracts often had bows but they don't shoot in FOG.

Re: Bows

Similarly I am not happy with a lot of the changes but I will ignore most of them and carry on playing FOGR because it is intrinsically a very good set. It helps that our club has the same view and I am essentially not a competition player.
Carry on regardless I say.
