Re: Updates - where we are at
Hi Nik Don't want to add to your burdens but I've just thought of something. There is a previous set of errata for the old FoG:R which I think had got up to version 10 or so. Will you incorporate those (where relevant) into the new PDF so that there is now only a single document to look at - be part...

Re: Britcon 2017 - 11-13 August
So the big winner out of this is a Swedish army that has managed to acquire Hindu allies - or vice versakevinj wrote:the points should be as in the original rules except for Elephants, Swedish Brigades and Commanded Shot.

Re: Britcon 2017 - 11-13 August
Not relevant to Britcon - but that old version has Cav cheaper than horse. If it is ever going to be used at any point (eg as a basis for future thoughts) shouldn't Horse be cheaper (being less capable of evading and falling back)?

Re: Britcon 2017 - 11-13 August
Is it correct that Av unarmoured Cav are 5 points and Horse and LH are 7 points? Seems to favour the cav a lot - or am I misreading it?

Hurrah - welcome back! Regrets to Charles and Nik - would have been great to team with either of you gents.

PS I'm sure you can, Ben. There were times in past iterations of the Forlorn Hope when you were carrying both your team mates!

Just to be clear, Ben and Charles get first dibs as previous members of the Forlorn Hope collective - otherwise we would have snapped up Nik straight away

Re: Bows
Maniakes made a post a lot earlier in this thread about one instance of bows outshooting firearms. An example we do not have many details for, but I'd be very interested in the numbers there (somehow I think the Ming could put a good order of magnitude more bowmen on the field than a Colonial Dutch...

Re: FoG:R Update - List Changes
One possibility would be to allow one Hussar unit to be upgraded to Elite. Certainly arguable historically (for example at the start of the battle to relieve Vienna one Hussar unit charges out at the whole Ottoman army - at least crazy if not Elite). Shouldn't disturb game balance too much and they ...

Re: Bows
The only straight up fight between bow and musket that I can bring to mind happened when the Ming general Coxinga was re-taking Formosa (Taiwan) from the Dutch. In a straight shoot out Ming bowmen broke the Dutch musketeers with firepower (there is an account with all the usual cliches about darkeni...

Is anyone having trouble with the BHGS website? I'm trying to book Challenge and I get as far as the Order Now button and then just get the Page Not Found page. don't know if it's me or Eventbrite.

Yes - the one and the same! Don Yes if you see any combination of Dave or David plus Parish or Parrish plus Brighton or Reigate in a FOG:R comp then it is the same person (me!)...... my preferred version is Dave Parish of Reigate (just because my other club, Brighton, don't go to comps) Dave P PS I...

Re: Southern League 2014 Clevedon Round
Apologies, but I'm going to have to drop out as well. I've got to drive to Falmouth and back the weekend before (Son on University open day) and I don't think I'll be up for the drive to Bristol the week after. I'm sure you can fill my place - hopefully I can make next year - Marc Priest Could I st...

Re: "Typical Army" Restrictions
And here we run into a very typical problem with wargamers IMO. On one hand we have an issue that people think needs addressing* but when it comes to actually making a change they shy away from doing so which can only perpetuate the issue. To be fair the original issue that was raised was that max ...

Re: "Typical Army" Restrictions
The "William and Mare" thing was mostly a bit of a weak joke. Maybe we should hold back on any more ideas until we have tried out one of them once ... I don't know about anyone else but I see any of these ideas as only applying to a few competitions to bring in variety, with a lot of compe...

Re: "Typical Army" Restrictions
As you know I don't agree with this and feel that the competition scene will then be dominated by all infantry armies, as it is at the weekend Bens infantry french blew Dons mounted army away and in later / open competitions it will be a world of Anglo-Dutch and later Danes, no one is making them t...

Have you ever seen those little wooden tools for dispensing runny honey (they are the sort of thing you can buy in National Trust gift shops). The weapon he is wielding looks exactly like one of those. Perhaps he is part of the Mochito Catering Corps?

Re: "Typical Army" Restrictions
I think probably it's about ratio of Artillery/Dragoons to the Maxed Mounted option. cheers Jim Exactly -the idea shouldn't be to introduce an anti-cavalry bias(let alone an anti-Alasdair bias!). Its just a problem with some lists and I think we want to make the smallest alteration that will fix it...

Re: "Typical Army" Restrictions
Despite using a Ming army I'm not that hot on their historical composition (...shamefully!) but my impression from what I have read of both Ming and Qing is of an awful lot of smaller guns - which would be represented by regimental guns and light artillery. So I don't think a historically leaning li...
