Basing Classical Indian Archers?

I've picked some up, and wonder how they should be based for FoG; could anyone advise, please?

Thanks, Simon

I thank you, Ars. I have a lot more (Roman, Celtic and German); am waiting for the light to improve so I can take better photos. The top ones are legion command stands that I originally did for C&C, but which suit FoG equally well.

I've been making round command bases for some time. Although they are hard to rank with units, they are easy to distinguish from normal elements, and each becomes a little diorama in its own right: http://www.displacedminiatures.com/BigRedBat/image.html?galleryId=2331&imageId=21993 http://www.displa...

I don't think we know for sure if they wore white, or red, let alone when they wore it.

But having said that, there are some suggestions they wore brilliant white for parades, at least some of the time.

My lists haven't arrived yet; how many elements of Gaesati might there be in a Gallic army, and are they 4 to a base, please?

Thanks

There's not a great deal of info about the composition of the army that Caesar fought in Alexandria; he was very dismissive about it, but it certainly gave him plenty of trouble!I'll be interested to see the list.

I managed to fit 3 abreast, but foung I needed to increase the base depth to 60mm to protect the figures.

Hi Steve, Yes I'm looking forward to another system so that we can ring the changes a bit from C&C. I love C&C, but if we don't try something different for a bit of variety, soon, I worry we'll go off it. I like the idea of the larger units in FoG; these days anything less than 24 men in a foot unit...

Thank you, Richard, that's just what I needed to know. For aesthetic reasons I may give all the elements in each BG a similar shield pattern, but the size of the BGs is what I was expecting.

Regards, Simon

Are there suggestions for how many elements there should be in a late Legio, or Auxilium? Would they include some archers in a third rank?

Mine will be big old 28mms; probably Crusader Numidians, or possibly Fondry Macedonians.

I voted 25mm as that is closest to 28mm.

Tim,

Hopefully I'll be able to come down in May when I've finished my evening course. I have some nice 28mm ancients armies that I've collected over the last 2-3 years, and also my old 15mm Romans that never worked under WRG!

But first I'd need to establish that the club is still using the cork hills I cut out in 1985? ;-)

I gave up on WRG back during 6th or 7th, and this is the first set of "proper" wargames rules I've considered in the last decade. I'm not sure whether or not I'll take to them; depends in part whether my opponents like them. I might even take a little run into Central London Wargames club, and let M...
