Re: Leutnant Joker commanding
I have watched the entire video. I was only trying to help you finish this scenario with a DV, not to criticize. Why you will not use Flak to deal with the US airforce and enough artillery to properly reduce entrenchments simply confuses me. I know you said you tried some 20 times, which says a lot ...

Re: Leutnant Joker commanding
Well, actually you did not. I re-checked your video and you used 2 Maus, 6-7 TigerIIs and No towed artillery at all. Your Luftwaffe was the same size as mine but top of the line. Something I could only imagine in my dreams. Re-watching your ponderous forces plod slowly across the plains, it is obvio...

Re: Leutnant Joker commanding
Well, Herr Leutnant, I would not characterize using the maximum prestige cheat as a little one. I just finished the West Coast scenario with a DV on field Marshal yesterday. My forces were extremely heavy in artillery, and I purchased a couple Wirbelwinds to offset the ridiculous numbers of AI air u...

Re: The Joy of Artillery
Just finished the West Coast scenario of the Basic game to get a decisive victory. Would have been impossible w/o loads of artillery. I would use 6-7 at a time to take on horrendously entrenched units in order to force surrenders. This is the only way I know to finish this one on time.

Re: Some advice for an ex PG-player please
Artillery is not accurately modeled in this game. The outstanding ability of the 17cm gun for instance was counter-battery, as it had an enormous range(some 30 km) when most artillery could only fire at ranges of 10-15km. Rate of Fire,in the length of time represented in turns, is essentially meanin...

Re: Some advice for an ex PG-player please
This is a game you will probably play through many times. I myself play on Field Marshal, with the advanced settings of limited dice rolls and a bump to experience so my troops learn a little faster. Usually about 75% is good enough. Strategic bombers are quite elegant in this game. When you bomb a ...

Re: Difficulty Challenge
All Italians would be very impressive! Doubt you could get much past Gazala with that, but anything for a challenge. I have always wondered if there was anyone out there who has played w/o any air units. AK is the one place it might be a possibility. I have played with very few air units but never w...

Re: Difficulty Challenge
You have described your game experience as a 'walkthrough'. If you are getting nothing but DVs at Field Marshal then I would suggest you go for it. You might be the first person to finish the entire game at Field Marshal with nothing but DVs. Be sure and post an AAR of that remarkable achievement. I...

Re: fight after 1945
Good point there. I wouldn't mind the game lasting until after VJ day myself. But then of course, we should give the Allies the atomic bomb, hoho!

Re: Difficulty Challenge
There is a reason you will not find many(or any) AARs from people playing at Rommel difficulty for 1944 and 1945. You cannot hope to outfight Russian units that are both more powerful and more experienced than yours that also outnumber your forces by at least 3 to 1. You must have the prestige cushi...

Re: Persia british convoy
I myself use the push to the NE through the mountains that KeldorKatarn practices. A few hints to save losses. Let the AI air attack first, but defend your units with fighters out of the spotting range of the AI. You will need plenty of fighters, maybe some Flak if you have some experienced units to...

Re: Difficulty Challenge
This is already what I do. Mobile artillery is a completely made-up item in the German inventory anyway until the Wespe was introduced. No actual mobile ranged artillery was available in reality until then. It was all towed. There was no such thing as the Sturmpanzer as it is portrayed in the game. ...

Re: Too little prestige!!
The more expensive the unit, the more expensive its replacements. I use Gebirgsjagers all through Poland w/o transport. The most bang for the buck you will find in the game. They are quite cheap to replace. Airplanes are nice but they are expensive. I never have more than 2 fighters and 2 bombers in...

Re: Artillery
I have talked about issues like these ad nauseum. The fact of the matter is that the German 15cm doesn't have the actual range of most other large calibers, should actually be a range of two. The German 17cm otoh, had twice the range of most other artillery and should come with a range of four. Ther...

One of the beauties of this game is that there are multiple paths to success.
Lots of different ways to get the job done.

Re: air superiority tactics?
Of course you have to adjust to the situation. If there are lots of bombers that are going to severely damage your troops, you should deplete them as much as possible. If it is a matter of Russian fighters coming over, it is best to take them out, even if one at a time. I generally use at least 6 fi...

Re: 1942 DLC: Storming Stalingrad
I started in 1939, playing at Field Marshal. I have done many things to save up prestige since then, since I am hoping to some day try Sea Lion '45 again, and know I will need a considerable amount to pay for replacements, not to mention buy all the pretty new toys available then. I tend to severely...
