Mid-Republican Roman Shields

I have seen what appear to me to be two different styles of shield coloration for Polybian legions: 1st method: each element of the legion (velites, hastati, principes, triarii) gets its own shield color. 2nd method: each legion gets a uniform shield color (the blue legion, the red legion, etc.). Ar...

Post-Roman British

So... does anybody have any ideas as to what the Post-Roman British list is going to look like in Wolves from the Sea? I'm especially curious as to what kind of horsemen they will be able to take.

Magister Militum 10mm.

Though for my HYW English I'm using Old Glory 10mm and Pendraken 10mm... they've got good coverage for the Middle Ages and they're pretty cheap.

Madness? THIS IS NORSCA!!
Right and you can have him jump kicking some guy off the boat and onto the horn of a narwhal.

Actually, that would be a great way to model your camp.

I thought a TC could also represent a very prestigious general (a CiC, in fact) who was a bit of a schlemiel.

I would assume it was before they did any fighting as I don't believe that English archers fought mounted. It is interesting that they were probably at least able to ride from their deployment position back to the baggage area to save if from the Italians. I guess FoG doesn't have a provision for t...

Are those ranges in the ballpark for firearms of the time? They seem a bit long to me, but I'm no expert.

The longbowmen in 100YW armies fought on foot but travelled on horseback. As a result once they get to a battlefield which is what a FoG game represents they had left their horses behind. When FoG gets a campaign suplement you may find mounted infantry appear. What about Bedford's reserve at Verneu...

Check out the general discussion topic entitled "cav with lance" from a month or two back on this very issue. I personally suspect armies with lance armed cav as the core of their army (as opposed to a mobile reserve or similiar) are going to be fairly ineffective. There are just too many fights th...

Can Cav armies work?

I was wondering what experiences people have had with mostly/all Cav armies. I was thinking about Sarmatians myself, along the lines of 5 BGs of superior armored cav lancer/sword and 3 more of foot (2x LF, 1x MF). What I'm mainly wondering about is how a Cav-heavy army like that deals with massed sp...

I don't speak DBM... never played it. (I assume this is DBMspeak?)

English guns of the HYW

Reading Seward... he gives Edward organ guns at Crecy. Storm of Arrows gives the English "Light Guns" which are rated as Light Artillery. But for example on the Burgundian list "Organ Guns" are specifically named as such (though also count as Light Artillery). Does anybody have a definitive scoop on...

I wondered that myself, but was afraid of the answer. :D Marc Well, given the life preserver on the helm of the guy in the middle, maybe they are Knights of the Bath ;) It's not the Vicious Chicken o...

If you're in the UK, you should look into: Magister Militum http://www.magistermilitum.com/ and also Pendraken: http://www.pendraken.co.uk/ Mag Mil has 15mm and 10mm lines; I think Pendraken is all 10mm. Obviously 10mm is the scale of discerning gentlemen gamers, although you'll run into a lot of th...

HYW English Longbowmen question

I'm going to be doing a HWY English Continental army for my mediaeval FoG army. I'm not sure how to paint the Longbowmen. Should each battlegroup have a uniform appearance, or would each individual bowman have his own non-uniform appearance? In other words, should all the tunics of BG1 be the same, ...

You have to watch "The Patriot" to see him really get stuck in to some genuinely evil Poms. I almost expected them to twirl their moustaches and laugh maniacally. I've always wanted to see a film that depicts the War of Independance as the righteous crusade against a bunch of ungratefull, treachero...

There is a place in the world called Scotland, and a place in the world called England.

Beyond that I don't think that movie has anything to do with this planet or the events hereupon. Too bad because Gibson's movies are usually rather good.

I guess the question is this: do the army terrain types represent only their doctrinal terrain of choice, or do they also represent prevalent local terrain in which they may be forced to fight?

If it's only doctrinal then a strong case can be made.
