Re: Winners Atrittion

A few of things have made me less than enthusiastic about tournaments: 1) Time. 800 pt games just take time, and add into that terrain set up, army set up, and the usual dithering by all gamers, it turns into a total time suck. 900 point games are not an improvement. I'd like to see more 650 point g...

Re: French vs Early Imperial Spanish

Walloons were a 14 stand GBG, including shot. So pulling off the shot didn't change the unit count.

V2 Romans vs Dacians AGAIN

Sooooo....Having lost all the Roman heavy cavalry last battle, the Romans decide to go hire some. Romans: 1 FC, 2 TC's, 1 allied TC 2 x 6 Legionaires, HF, Armored, Superior, drilled, Impact foot, skilled swordsmen 1 x 4 Legionaires, same as above 2 x 4 Auxiliaries, HF, Armored, average, drilled, lig...

So... historical then? :)

Good pics and report.
Heh. Yeah. Maybe hire a bunch of Sarmatians.

2nd V2 Game: Romans vs Dacians

Trajan is going to force the Iron Gates! Since the Germans were less than stellar, the Dacians have decided to have a go at the Romans. Substandard pictures again. (What were you expecting, Trajan's Column?) Romans: 1 FC, 3 TCs 3x6 Legionaires, HF, Armored, Superior, Impact Foot, Skilled Swordsmen 1...

First V2 game, Romans vs Germans

First game of V2, Prinicpate Roman vs Early German 800pts. Played on a 4x6 foot field. Apologies for the substandard photos. Charles V wants to know where his field fortifications are.

For the Caroline Imperialist list, my copy does not list field fortifications as being available.

This for the army that fought behind field fortifications at Bicocca in 1522?

Am I missing something here?

Re: Mixed BGs, is it legal to have odd numbers of a type?

Well, the diagram for a colonela shows a version with the swordsman stand in the same file as the shot stands, next to the pike stands, making two columns of 3 stands, but maybe that's another exception. Speaking of which, is there anything to stop one from deploying a colena with the shot on both s...

Re: Mixed BGs, is it legal to have odd numbers of a type?

I was just curious.... It seemed to me that 5 shot made sense. You would get 4 dice of shooting until the BG has lost 4 bases which is not at all bad. The list checkers at the tournament I entered decided it was wrong even though there is nothing in the rules to prevent it so I figured I would ask ...

Re: 6 Madaxeman.com Reports from Britcon 2012

John's posted his list elsewhere on the forum, but in essence he took 4 BGs of allied camels (lance and sword), used them as a block, disordered the TYW mounted so pistols didn't count, then ganged up bow armed warrior units (7BGs I think) on the 6 strong P&S and had a number of lance armed LH that...

Re: 6 Madaxeman.com Reports from Britcon 2012

Any comment on why so many 30 Years War armies? Pick one or more from: They are the most commonly owned armies They have a lot of flexibility in their composition so can be configured to confidently take on a wide range of opponents In an open competition they are arguably the best bet Swedes get a...

Re: Mixed BGs, is it legal to have odd numbers of a type?

Well its hammy always looking at the odd bits. I could see this formation having a little extra longer shooting ability. FWIW Hammy I would do 2 HW and 9 pike. the HW are far more versatile and same points. So why not take 6 shot and 10 of the other stuff, if you want more shooting? It's not like t...

Re: Mixed BGs, is it legal to have odd numbers of a type?

A quick review of the appendix 'Using the lists' does not appear to forbid doing such a thing, as the group has an even number of bases, and the number of bases correspond to the range specified for the group as the GBG example mentioned sounds like it is one of those big Landsknecht/fussknecht grou...

Re: 4 Madaxeman.com Match Reports Ottomans at Roll Call

Yes, highly entertaining but dispiriting for Ottoman army owners. Why take the Janissaries with bows rather than arquebus? I suppose the extra range makes them more likely to disrupt the enemy before coming to handstrokes, but not much more... in my only game against Ottomans, using Henrician Engli...

Re: French vs Early Imperial Spanish

A really, really crappy day in French history. I won't say it was dice, but it was dice (Or Aliens) Like the time you rolled 4 dice and got all sixes, or when the Lanquesnechts that were winning vs the disrupted tercio whiffed and rolled a 2 on their CT to drop straight to fragged, then you whack m...
