Artillery fire and skirmishers
Can someone please point to some historical examples where an army's artillery fired at the enemy through their own skirmishers while the skirmishers supported that fire?

Re: Points frustration
The solution - as I explained at the start - was for everyone to be able to overspend by an amount equal to 1 pt less than the minimum spend allowable for that army. That makes it fairer for everyone. The reason is that army lists with lots of cheap units or cheap upgrades has an advantage in fixed ...

Re: Suggested amendments
I'm a well known tinkerer, but I have a lot of sympathy toward the view that we should not be making non-critical changes. It seems to be overly focussed on the entrenched tournament set. I think FoGR is the best of the FoG set and have had a great time playing them, and don't see any obvious proble...

Re: Points frustration
The reason I mention it, which some people seem to miss, is that is does favour some armies (like lack of information does) in that if you have an army with lots of upgrades or cheap troops, it's easy to spend that last 10 or so points. For some armies any additional upgrade or troops will cost a lo...

Re: Early Imperial Spanish in Open Tourney?
So in an 11 army field, where 10 armies were in the period 1630-1700 and located in Western Europe/Britain, the Early Imperial Spanish of 1559 managed third! :o It was actually surprisingly competitive, with the two groups of superior arquebusiers the key. They were flanked by an early tercio and a ...

Re: Points frustration
I have an example - putting together a medieval army where the cheapest troop type is 6AP - potential to waste up to 11AP. Or even worse - you have selected all of your BGs with maximum allowable size and have, say, 14AP left over. What can you do with that? Seems a little unfair and artificial to ...

Re: Early Imperial Spanish in Open Tourney?
ET armies can work if the army is tailored to fight against the expected high number of 17th century armies of an open tourney. If you want to use a Spanish army with ETs I would recommend Caroline Imperialist, because you don´t have to field men at arms, saving points otherwise used in an expensiv...

Re: Points frustration
I've not had the problem with FoG:AM, but FoG:R is a LITTLE more prone to it. I find the limit of Infantry battle troops to 6 bases or 6 bases causes an issue of around 45 points. I mean, my list can be at 770 points and can't take a poor or average Regiment, so have to 'take something else'. I thi...

I think you completely misunderstood the premise...philqw78 wrote:What an arse argument. Surely you will find armies better at 807 if the limit is 804, or 659 if the limit is 657.
Or should we have voluntary limits?

Re: Points frustration
I don't see a problem with facing armies with just a bit more than the points level. I think it makes the lists fairer. (And I think this is especially the case with FOG-R).
I do agree, though, that 800 pts is an annoying level.

Early Imperial Spanish in Open Tourney?
Having not played a lot of FOG-R I'm just wondering how these 16thC types go in open tourneys (hopeless in DBR is my starting reference)? I'd like to play Early Imperial Spanish because to me early tercios define this period and seem like a lot of fun. I've played arquebus types against muskets befo...

Lone commanders in destroyed BG
I couldn't find what happens to a commander if the BG which he is attached to is completely destroyed with a pursuing BG still in contact. If he survives the death roll does he go to the nearest friendly BG? How far away can that be? What if there are none in range (if there is one)? Is it in the ru...

Points frustration
I'm not sure if this has been raised before, but creating armies to a certain point size has a large degree of frustration to it because the cost of every additional BG, base or upgrade is generally quite large, often a minimum of 8-12 points. This is natural given it uses units, and is quite differ...
