Reading the rulebook, I reckon Hazelbark is right and fragmented lancer CV in a single rank that pass the test for being charged can evade rather than stand and fight! Worth remembering, to try to save the odd attrition point?

what about anglo-danish or viking? Anglo-danish with all that armoured stuff would be "cheaper" to buy as it may require fewer figures? Dailami, too, after my experiences at Attack '09! More manouverable than HF (but more vulnerable in the open), and although the point cost of them is high...

In general I think Hammy is right and these 3rd rank LF are best left where they are "supposed" to be. I have occasionally used them as shooters by expanding them onto a flank of an HF/MF BG, esp into terrain, but you have to be careful the BG doesn't get charged while they are still in th...

"Similar to the way you can feed bases into a melee and frontally contact an enemy who hasn't fought in an Impact phase" Is this right? Or is it only so if the new enemy contacted is in an existing overlap position? Meaning if I feed bases onto the flanks of my frontally engaged ones to fo...

2 or 3 drilled average MF armoured OffSp bgs with rear support and an IC near enough to influence!

I think what you told your opponent was 100% right on the two grounds you mention ... you have to charge enemy troops to attempt to contact them except if it's a corner to corner overlap contact (as in the case of your companions) and light foot can't charge unbroken non-skirmishers!

There's no limit to how far short of actual contact you can move towards enemy although a gnat's todger was once mentionned! When troops are disordered, the command and control system has been compromised so they are less likely to obey orders. Maybe got fed up with being shot at and wanted to...

I'M fairly sure these early Islemen and Highlanders would be speaking the Gaelic language. It doesn't sound too romantic to the untutored ear but you can try a listen for yourself as there is both a radio station or two and the tv channel BBC Alba that broadcasts in Gaelic.

Is there no priority to expand into a BG you are in frontal contact with before one that is merely an overlap? I don't believe there is but maybe there should be?

Macbeth ruled in Scotland from around 1040 to 1057, just at the time that FoG has the "Knightly lance" being introduced, so I guess an early Macbeth army without such lancers is as acceptable as a late Macbeth army with them?

The loss of PBI is often an advantage as you move first and are more likely to be able to double move where it matters most to your plan. Increasingly I find it helpful with an MF/Mtd based army to lose the PBI, and I can see with HF getting a chance of two double moves where your HF line faces an e...

Yes it is ... any rank after the first can have the same number of or fewer bases than the rank in front of it.

Completely agree with DaiSho re the FC and the Thorakitai! The FC brings no significant benefit and I think the Seleucids benefit from having a low PBI so they get first(double) move. I try to couple the thorakitai with some thracians as 2 x tough MF bgs working together can secure flank-placed toug...

Armoured Immortals in 8s are very good troops indeed! Armoured hoplites will form a reliable battle line. In period the cavalry is good value especially as it can skirmish as well as attack in support of its own LH. However, the standard sparabara are not very durable and in competition cannot form ...

I too would drop Mithridates to a TC. The Armenian FC could be valuable if you contemplated using the allied contingent for a flank march, otherwise no point really. I personally wouldn't bother with the scythed chariot "gimmick", I have found them useful and effective very rarely. I think...

I think you are right Mario, not the finest day for the Italians! Wasn't it at this battle the Italian men at arms tried to cross a frozen river to attack a French column and got so disordered that they were rather easy pickings for the invaders! Your story about the stradiots in Venetian service ri...
