I'll give you an "Amen!" on that... fastest response I think I've ever seen to a player request, and I've been involved in these sorts of discussions on line since MOO (1) and Civ1 were state of the art games.

Re: Field Training Damage Change

To each their own. That's the beauty of things being modable vs hardcoded.

Re: Field Training Damage Change

Could this be made modable in a future patch? Frankly, I'd like to reverse it.

Field Training Damage Change

The new (1.1.2) change "Field Training now deals 10% health damage to units ranked up."

Is this modable, or hard-coded in the exe?

Re: Steam Release?

Personally, I avoid Steam whenever possible. I only have an account because of certain games I don't want to skip that are only distributed on Steam (so far, only Civ5 & EUIV). No problem with publishers offering Steam as an option, but I really wish they wouldn't force me to use it.

Re: Back story vacancy

Interestingly, some other posts have made the case that current faction bonus/malus values make too much of a difference. Perhaps it varies by difficulty level, or makes more/less difference according to the world set-up. The factions are largely similar to SMAC, and are essentially ideological cari...

Re: Any plan to make this game more strat and less constant

There are several victory conditions, not all requiring war. I always turn off those sorts of things and play in a sandbox mode where a game allows (most do), so I don't recall all of them but IIRC one of them is a tech victory. The game is very similar to SMAC, although it does lack the "transend" ...

Re: Buzz Aldrin's Space Program Manager Announced!

I understand but what we're saying is the game is not a historical simulation based on the Cold War. This is an alternative history and it is a key part of the design to allow you to build any of the projects from all of the nations so is not going to change. Then I look forward to your answer to E...

Re: Buzz Aldrin's Space Program Manager Announced!

I think you are missing the point. Forget about BARIS. The idea of a global space agency in the 50's & 60's getting Apollo-level funding and highly classified militarily useful technology from the rival superpowers is ridiculous. This was the Cold War. Without the Cold War, nobody would have investe...

Re: Buzz Aldrin's Space Program Manager Announced!

Absolutely! The competition was the reason for it. W/O that factor, pretty sure there would be no human footprints on the moon today.

And no, a competative mode only in multi-player doesn't fix it.

Re: Buzz Aldrin's Space Program Manager Announced!

There will be a sandbox mode where you can try out stuff but in Campaign mode you'll have targets set by government to achieve and penalties for failing them or possibly being fired if you fail badly. We're still working on the details of this but we'd like to get some sort of influence score in th...

....and another thing, I could have launched Vanguard in 1956 if I went with Werner and the boys and shifted funding.......all kidding aside I spent many many happy hours with BARIS but it was buggy and never got the support it deserved...and it was far too intelligent and ambitious for the computi...

Re: Buzz Aldrin's Space Program Manager Announced!

I just noticed this in the write-up... "It is the mid 1950s and the biggest nations in the world, in an effort to conquer outer space together, have established the Global Space Agency (GSA). " Don't you think this is kinda bogus? Totally not the spirit of those times. The space race was a contest b...

Re: Buzz Aldrin's Space Program Manager Announced!

I'm a lover of strategy games and I remember "wasting" many of my teenage days playing BARIS, although I'm pretty sure I never beat the computer. Baris was a notoriosly hard game in single player. The AI was really good. That is one of the most common complaints by SP players in the gaming industry...

Re: Buzz Aldrin's Space Program Manager Announced!

Is this game any relation (other than general subject matter & celebrity tie-in) to Buzz Aldrin's Race Into Space ("BARIS") from 20 years ago? That was a great game, with for its time inovative use of video. I used to participate in the Dev's board on the old Genie service back in the day. It was ba...
