Re: Why hasn't WEGO dominated?
Interesting replies, no arguments really to your insights. Realism though, life is a game to a point and yet it is still very real. I guess it comes down to how much game and how much realism is desired. Chess depicts nothing more than a challenge. In warGames, no one dies, there's no smell of death...

Why hasn't WEGO dominated?
I'm just going to say it, RTS is about as phoney as the day is long. No, I'm not saying Turn based is any sort of magical realism in comparison. And if you are always pausing to give orders, why have it RTS, to begin with? If you want complete control, you might as well stick with turns. I want WEGO...

Re: What’s your most favorite war game so far?
Hmm number 1 spot is ASL (I liked SL most though). Followed by A3R. Then Steel Panthers specifically via Mega Campaigns. Big fan of Battle Academy and Strategic Command. I have high hopes for a game called Second Front (in development) that is almost an ASL clone on PC.

Take a bow... you men of wargaming.
Hello all, been a while since I was active here on Slitherine turf. Thought I'd drop in with my own 20 years observation. 20 years ago I discovered Steel Panthers World at War. It was my first encounter with digital wargaming. I must admit, it was not something I took to willingly. I'm a cardboard b...

Re: Considering about the dinosaurs of Matrix Games
So I'm reading the OPs comments and it's like "Is this one of my posts?" but no, it's not me. But it is comically like me. Heck, I almost wonder if he had copy pasted me

Re: Panzer General is dead.
I was browsing through the various threads and came across this one that was interesting. The first post ended with this question: Your thoughts? Since this was the first time I had read it and the thread appeared to be timeless, I responded. Well, when you consider all that is Panzer Corps Gold, a...

Re: Question on serials with new downloads of installer file
Hmm not sure how this would change things. But I bought the 2013 file for a friend who clearly has not registered it.
I will leave things alone while you ponder what to do.

Question on serials with new downloads of installer file
Just a question regarding the registration of any new serials after being given a new download of the installation file. I required a new installer file for my Battle Academy game. Should I register the new serial? Or leave the original serial in place. Oh and kudos for the speed that support was ab...

Games Want or waiting to see it when it appears
I have two games that have defied the odds (that being still able to get my interest in a time when the LAST thing I need is yet another war game that never gets played), that being Tigers on the Hunt, and the slow and steady and not over hyped Strategic Command 3. Tigers on the Hunt mainly because ...

Re: Civ VI announced
I'm not one of the V haters, but, looking at it, the first thing that enters into my mind was "hmm looks like they took the console version and tried to use a rolling pin to make it into a PC version." Graphically, I'm not encouraged. But my Civ any version days might have ended 2 years ago. Lost th...

Re: WW2 Squad Battles from beginning to End...ala X-Com
I like the design of X-Com. I think as a specifically WW2 concept with no weirdness it might not be so bad.
I've seen plenty of games try to do this type of style/setting, and not always with any real success.

Re: No I'm not dead :)
Sooooo this Friday I have internet again. Not sure if it is a good idea. But the primary reason I dropped it was it wasn't stable and I had no way to discern if it was hardware which I couldn't afford to replace. So I'm hopping to shoot up some stuff in Battle Academy soon again (about the only game...

Don't call it burn out. It's not the real problem
I've read posts by you men over the years mentioning 'war gaming burn out'. I submit you are or were not actually suffering 'burn out'. You were possibly just having trouble getting excited by 'yet more of the same'. I've seen this in other parts of the gaming world. After all, how can you seriously...
