Re: Best Infantry Unit
Bridge engineers has relatively high defense stats, but they are not the only ones. Grenadiers share those stats as well. That said, Gebirgsjaeger has the highest AD of 18, although its GD is 7. Bridge Engineer GD: 8; AD: 17 Grenadier/ 43 Grenadier GD: 8; AD: 17 Wehr Inf/ 43 Wehr Inf GD: 8, AD: 16 G...

Re: Amassing Prestige
Another tip is to plan your equipment upgrades carefully. Specifically, avoid out-of-family upgrades for as long as you can. E.g., if you bought a Pz IIIE, try to upgrade it within the Pz III family. If you are playing the GC, check out the capturable equipment thread and make sure you capture the e...

Re: Favourite units in each unit class
When I said situational, I really meant it. It's hard to have too many situational units in a corps because of the drag on versatility and efficiency. I only have one Pak 43 in my corps in my current playthrough and even that took a lot of baby sitting and careful deployment from GC39-GC43.

Re: Favourite units in each unit class
The Pak 43's GD = 8, same as Wehr Inf/Wehr Inf 43/ Grenadier/ Grenadier 43/ Pioniere/ Pioniere 43. In other words, not all that great in open terrain. However, because the AI is not smart enough to quickly deploy arty to pound away at the Pak 43, the unit can still score some serious damage before t...

Re: Favourite units in each unit class
Vs. tank destroyers the Pak 43 is actually more devastating than the Elefant because tank destroyers have terrible soft attacks. It doesn't matter what initiative roll they get or how lucky they are, they'll never even scratch the Pak 43. That's a big deal in the east because the soviets have tons ...

Re: Favourite units in each unit class
I really like the SdKfz 7/1 precisely because of the high RoF. However, its half-tracked movement of 5 means that the unit is not very mobile during winter scenarios. One fix is to downgrade it to the SdKfz 10/4, which has a half-tracked movement of 8, at 0 cost. Once you get pass those winter scena...

Re: Is Panzer Grenadier synonymous with motorized/mechanized infantry?
You might want to check out this video on the organization and designation of various types of German motorized and mechanized infantry units in WWII. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e2HD2ZTs_Kg A side note: "grenadier" was not the only term in use after 1942. The Grossdeutschland Panzergr...

Re: Building a historically authentic core/corps
I agree with captainjack's point that a corps-divisional structure can simplify planning; I've found that in my own playthrough. Many of the maps can be carved up into three zones/lines of advance, each of which can naturally be allocated to one division. Some maps require a fourth combined-arms for...

Re: Building a historically authentic core/corps
@derEselausErgste: Happy to see there are people out there who are interested in a historical core. My comments are based on the assumption that you will be doing GC East (you mentioned Stalingrad). I have never used the Amulet mod, so what I said may or may not apply. Suggestions: - Build a corps t...

Re: Why "3D" Graphics Will Never be Good for PzC
Thank you for this post, proline. I've not been following the PzC2 development and your post nicely highlights the problem associated with going to 3d. For me personally, one of the strengths of PzC is the visual clarity of the game (though there is room for improvement). I can easily tell different...

Re: Games similar to Panzer Corps?
If you are open to trying games released in the 90s, I would recommend SSI's Fantasy General, which is based on the Panzer General engine and combat mechanics. It's available on GOG at an affordable price. Also, the game is relatively bug-free (Sovereignty, I'm looking at you).

Re: Panzer IIF.
No, I don't currently use them. When I tried it out a few years back, it has recon move. The problem is that recon move doesn't work as well with this vehicle because of its low base movement of 5. AFAIK, Tracked recon has an advantage over all terrain recon (e.g., SdKfz 232) on frozen terrain. Even...

Re: Captured Units: Keep or Disband?
So while it might not be economical upgrading the Somua or T-34/40 all the way to first a IV then a tiger, i am perfectly fine with using them while they were clearly superior or at least equivalent to contemporary panzer, and upgrade them to a III or IV when this is no longer the case, and at this...

Re: Elite replacements in mission vs before mission
While I usually agree with the no replacement in battle guideline, I also usually have the prestige to do what needs to be done. If a unit needs it, I give it and damn the cost. If I can do without that unit for the rest of the battle then it can tap out. Agree. I think ultimately the decision to u...

Re: An undo feature/button?
I suggest making an undo capability a choice for the player rather than a hardwired feature. Let players choose whether they want to play with or without an undo capability. I can see the "realism" benefit of not allowing undos, but players do mis-click and there should be a way to allow t...

An undo feature/button?
I've played a few battles and noticed that there doesn't seem to be an undo feature/button. To be precise, I am only referring to an undo feature for unit moves in a scenario; I am not referring to an undo feature for undoing a combat outcome. Am I correct or have I missed something? If there isn't ...

Re: Later game core.
Yes, TSPC37730 mentioned the snow idea. SdKfz 10/4 makes a lot of sense in scenarios with frozen ground because the 5 movement of the 7/1 (and 7/2) just makes it hard for it to keep up.

But the SdKfz 10/4 won't have the 12 ROF of the SdKfz 7/1.

Re: StuG IIIb vs. StuG IV.
@stormbringer: in the default equipment file, StuG IV's ROF is 110%, same as StuG IIIB's. I wouldn't compare the StuG IIIB to StuG IV. A better comparison is StuG IV vs. SU-122 if you are interested in a long-range (i.e., range > 1) SP unit, or StuG IIIB vs. StuH42 vs. Brummbar if you are interested...

Re: Stalingrad.
I've played through branches. Tatsinkaya is more challenging than Kotelnikovo not simply because of the greater number of Soviet units, but also because of the higher quality of Soviet units. If memory serves, you face numerous 3-star units (often at overstrength) in Tatsinkaya; you face at most 2-s...
