Re: elephants

I agree with your points, citizen 6. In fact I think that most (or almost all) Ancient wargaming rulesets do not deal quite well with elephants. I proposed something in the lines you are saying a while ago in this same forum, but given the results, that was not much successful. Instead of dying elep...

Re: elephants

Actually there are two issues here (and again, only in the Western experience), as ShrubMiK pointed out. The first one is their spectacular impact in some moments, specially when they were first introduced. The second one is how they were used and if rulesets really represent that. For the first que...

Re: A Field of Glory gallery

Wow! THAT is a camp. I don't even have a clue where you can find all of those figures and supplies in 15mm. Can we see pictures of the army in the background too? For Ancients I have bought several types of supplies from Baueda. They have so many varieties of baskets, barrels and boxes that you can...

I use pins (I hope that is the right word in English). That is what I meant: http://www.dekoratiendas.com/183-288-thickbox/alfiler-acero-30-mm-caja-de-250-grs.jpg For around 1,50€ you can have more than fifty. They are used when sewin. You just have to cut the edge and you have fairly good lances. I...

Re: Field of Glory goes 2.0 !

Yeah, new lists every other month, including changes to the rules, and new figures to buy to match the list, and if you don't use their figures you can't play at competitions. Also the new free rule book is tiny. In my opinion new lists (most of them are offered for free on the Internet) every mont...

I don't play FoW ... But they are certainly doing something right. I'm not sure if it is marketing; publishing; up-dating; or what ... But something they do is working. Comic book or not I wonder if their buisness model might be something Slitherene can learn from?? Mike B I bloody-well hope not, t...

Re: elephants

However, it doesn't cover the other roles elephants had, for example forming a screen against mounted, very well. You could try to do that in FOG, but the elephant BG isn't really wide enough to screen proerly, and risks being shot down itself. I think there are some units that should have elephant...

Re: What FOG is missing

I am mostly interested in accurate historical representations at grand tactical level. I think that historical wargaming is for that. In that regard I am with Eques opinion. If people prefer "what if" fantasy games between a samurai and a legionary, I wonder to what extent that is historic...

Re: What FOG is missing

>If you look at real fields, uneven is what nature looks like most of the time and flat surfaces are less common. Surely that's just a quibble over terminology? Tabletop with no terrain indicates what in real-life is not entirely flat/clear, but is enough so to not have any noticeable effect on tro...

Re: What FOG is missing

I like Zocco's idea It is subtle but makes uneven a place to come in for heavy foot and I might adapt it for my games. If you look at real fields, uneven is what nature looks like most of the time and flat surfaces are less common. I would keep disorder for mounted as terrain was used by footmen to ...

So the best we have to look forward to is the inevitable theft of our property, strikes me as a first class reason to leave this as digital only!! And having  read this mail and looking at the poll where 6% of players brazenly post that they will steal our work it makes me wonder if we really shoul...

Re: Version 2 Poll, Version 2, Version 2.

Yes, you are totally right: it is quite easy (and with no risks) to propose how to do things when you risk nothing. Business are not easy and just surviving in wargaming is a success. In the other hand, in my profession I listen to all inputs and then I take my decision. New opinions are always good...

Re: Version 2 Poll, Version 2, Version 2.

With respect to the current "censorship" I see nothing wrong with a discussion of piracy as a problem but it crosses the line when a poll asks people if they will or would engage in piracy (a criminal act) under certain circumstances. Indeed, asking a criminal if he will commit crimes is ...

true But this won't simply be a re-printing. Its a new version True... but they don't have to start from scratch. If they keep the former files of V1 and if they used templates, it is not as hard as it might seem. In the journal I worked for even journalist could lay out their own page. Certainly th...

Re: Field of Glory goes 2.0 !

I think that there are three types of customers for V2: those wanting an electronic set, those demanding rules in a format they can have access to and those asking for a book. I think that we are simply different types of customers and we ask for different kind of things. The problem I see with a pa...

I was about to say the same thing as Peter. It gives a reason to fortify your camp. Indeed it seems quite historical. Unfortified camps can still be sacked by mounted, like what happened to Alexander in Gaugamela.

In Ancient Warfare IV.6 you have some hints for the Hellenistic world. (Hellenistic) Elite units were a complete different world and there was a more colourful display. Some generals are quoted of spending sometime selecting their armies costumes. http://www.ancient-warfare.com/cms/issues/ancient-wa...

When we are talking about a printable copy do you mean like the V2 playtest rules we used? If so ... yuck I have already voiced my desire ... I prefer a V2 rulebook as nice as and similar to the V1 rulebook. One thing that got me to try FoG was the professional presentation of the rulebook. I bough...
