Re: Impetuosity Check

In the current version a player has no control of evades, but has full control of charges. Personally, I don't think I like the all or nothing approach for both.

"FIGHT NOW" Battles

I tried setting up a quick battle using the ''Fight Now!" option. None of the results interested me, but I did discover that every result I obtained was from the original release. After a couple dozen attempts no battles from any of the DLC's was obtained. I did get many duplicate results though. Th...

Re: An undo feature/button?

Personally, I think accidental clicks are a good simulation of the chaos in battle.

Re: Automatic pushback/pursuit with infantry absolutely ruins this game

Great thread, which I just read for the first time. The proposed alternate (infantry) push backs seems like a good compromise given current mechanics. One positive side effect of the current rules is that you are encouraged to put your elite infantry units on the flanks of your battle line. A center...

Re: Field of Glory II Rise of Persia New DLC is coming! Dont miss the Twitch Preview!

The last two DLCs have been very narrow in scope. I think it is likely that there will be some armies and periods we will never see.

Re: Buff for heavy weapons ?

Heavy weapon has a different purpose, in addition to the melee POA, they can chop through any armour. So their effect is more obvious vs armoured enemies than unarmoured ones. They will be key during medieval times. You can see their effect in my Silkroad mod. The Heavy Weapons Med Foot can deal wi...

Re: Historical army setup of alans

Considering the thinness of historical sources any Alan army list is pretty hypothetical. Of course this is true of many armies, including major ones. Most steppe armies, such as the Scythians, Sarmatians, Huns and Mongols, occasionally made use of large numbers of infantry, either natives or more l...

Re: Third Expansion

It's already been (officially) mentioned elsewhere on this forum the next DLC being play tested is Age of Belisarius. I suppose the only real question is the time period and armies. I am under the impression it is not the same as Decline & Fall in the original miniatures version.

I am not aware of any historical account that goes into that level of detail. Even the best histories we have are often a cross between soap opera and propoganda.

It does seem a little funny that troops can run out of ammo, but lancers and impact foot have unlimited charges.

Re: Automatic pursuit is not accurate

I don't have a problem with the pursuit rules, although the direction of the pursuit can get a little ridiculous. In re-fighting Hydaspes the AI stacked up the Indian foot. When some of the 1st line routed, the only open space was toward the Macedonians. So the routers and pursuerers end up doing a ...

Re: Can A Small Number of Skirmish Units be Useful?

Perhaps (one of) the most important task(s) for LI in the end game is to hunt down enemy routing units. My AI opponent(s) seems to have an uncanny ability to rally.

Re: AI.

Baggage camps could potentially be given camp guards and/or could be fortified. It was an important part of ancient warfare, and armies took some care not to lose their camps.

Re: AI.

I t seems like the AI is better at micro-managing than macro-managing. It certainly understands the mechanics of zones of control better than me, and can often put it's units in advantageous positions, but it often wastes units responding to diversions or less important parts of the battlefield. I w...

Re: Argentoratum Epic Battle

Although its an exercise in tedium, you can rout the Romans with the LI archers only. The Roman LC responds meekly one at a time. Two cataphracts eventually moved, one of which died quickly from missiles, another routed a LI javelin unit but never moved again. After that the Romans never moved anyth...

Argentoratum Epic Battle

This looks like a first. The AI never reacts with the Romans, and loses to Frankish bow fire alone :o .
The last unit to break was Julian and his cavalry bodyguard.

Re: Late Roman - Kinda bad?

I find in smaller size battles the Late Romans can't get enough of anything, so it is hard to compete against many armies. In some ways it reminds of a Pontic army. A little of this, a little of that, but not enough of anything to make it good. Perhaps that is realistic. Perhaps some games make the ...

Re: Can A Small Number of Skirmish Units be Useful?

As skirmishers I think LI & LC are quite different, given LC can charge heavier troops and are faster than any unit in the game. Obviously, this makes them very useful harassing the flanks and attacking weakened opponents. Generally, I have been scaling back on LI. Although javelins can be useful fo...

Re: Armored Horse Archers

The cataphract archer idea would be an interesting Sassanid option. But, back to the generic armored horse archer. As it stands now, in its current configuration , at 72 points each the expert armored horse archer is way overpriced. By comparison, the fierce nomad horse archer is 56 points. I don't ...
