Nice!
I may have lost the game; and even if found am not sure how I would install it on my current rig.

Does anyone still have Legion Arena Extra Manual
Some years back, shortly after I acquired THC-GBOR, I downloaded a fan-compiled Legion Arena Extra Manual , as a PDF file if I remember correctly. I still have the printed copy but it is showing signs of wear, and I would like to print out another. However I have changed computers twice in the inter...

Re: Infantry Tactics Poll Master-style
In original LA I only require a keeper army of 12 units, which typically is: Auxilia #1 Aux. Cav. Velites *2 Triarii Auxiliary Archers #1 & #2 Auxilia #2 Praetorians Auxiliary Archers #3 & #4 The Triarii are trained as anti-cavalry specialists, and all other non-missilers are trained as anti...

Re: Cavalry Tactics
The very first scenario of Britannicus, on Very hard, is virtually impossible. If you come up with a good strategy, and try it 20 or 30 time, it can be won, but I just drop down to Hard and jump back to Very Hard. I have won it twice some time ago, with ample luck, but have been unable to do so agai...

Re: End of Game Army Composition
It's been another year, and time to update this with my latest results. I have made a similar post on the THC-GBOR site here ( http://www.slitherine.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=64736 ) that also includes my Skills Training notes. Final Prestige for my most recent run through, after healing th...

Re: Beating the Men in Black in the Roman Campaign
I have gotten even better at this scenario. I start the campaign with only a Scout unit, and purchase a Spearmen at earliest opportunity and train it through Level 6 (obtaining Disciplined Formations). With this core, supplemented by a pair of Skirmishers and 2 or 3 peasant pincushions, a Scouts ful...

Re: Battle of Zama
My typical army for this scenario, in purchase order, is: Legate - Level 18 Scout - Level 20 Spearman - Level 19 Skirmisher * 2 - Level 16 Velites * 2 - Level 16 Principe - Level 15 Triarii - Level 15 Legionary - Level 10 Auxilia - Level 9 AuxiliaryCavalry - Level 11 All non-missilers are trained as...

Re: Battle of Zama
Absolutely! I play only on Very Hard and couldn't more than a couple of scenarios in if I wasn't training and equipping my units.

Re: Final Army Composition; Purchase Order; Training
Attn: Slitherine Support I have the 68 save files for the campaign run-through referred to above, with losses replenished for my keeper army but not my pin-cushions, available. Is Slitherine interested in posting it here for reference? That might be a useful tutorial resource for new players, as the...

Final Army Composition; Purchase Order; Training
So you know whereof I speak - my most recent run through THC-GBoR finished with a final prestige of 1,145,610: Purchase Order of troops (disband initial Militia and Skirmishers): Defiant Framers - Scouts Aequi Raiders - Spearmen variable. before Men in Black - Skirmishers * 2 Conclude the War - Veli...

Re: F the Syrian War
Hide the bulk of your army in the woods on the left hand side, on Long Hold. Behind the wood, place your missilers stacked (at least 4) against the left-hand side of the arena, with your very best anti-cavalry specialists and leader to their immediate right. Now shift them a few pixels to the right ...

Re: End of Game Army Composition
Playing GBoR rules (where available unit types start very minimal, and grow only slowly) I just set a new personal best of 1,141,700 built around 2 skirmishers, 4 velites, 2 archers, and 1 each of Scout, Aux. Cavalry, Spearmen, Triari, Legionary and Auxilia. The Spearmen/Triari absolutely be given S...

Re: End of Game Army Composition
I think the difference is that you want to watch your archers launch flaming arrows to the skies, and I want to set a new personal best of 1,148,070. No keeper unit broke and ran form the field; ever; through all 68 scenarios.

Re: End of Game Army Composition
In a few later scenarios, where I need a third heavy, I rent a Legionary or Trarii as a heavy-duty pin-cushion/cannon-fodder. My goal in all scenarios is to win without any (permanent) unit breaking morale and running. I sometimes miss on one or two scenarios over the full 68 scenario campaign, but ...

Re: End of Game Army Composition
A new (personal) record: 1,147,730. A mere 40 above my previous record, and I was running about 230 ahead around Scenario 50 or so which suggested that I might get to 1,148,000, but it wasn't to be. Final army in build order: Level 25: Legate Level 20: Auxilia I Level 28: Auxiliary Cavalry I Level 2...

Re: End of Game Army Composition
Good work. To get to the next level I suggest recruiting one Triarii, one Legionary or Praetorian, and two more Velites instead of the last two Auxilia. Specialize the Triarii as anti-cavalry (you wouldn't believe how these guys can chew up even the best of enemy cavalry hen backed up by a Velite), ...

Re: End of Game Army Composition
Congratulations. One nice feature of the Velites is that two of them cost the same as an archer, and carry (combined) the same number of missiles, but deliver them twice as fast. Good for those sections of the battle where you need a really fast hard punch. The sarissa is a nice final touch to the t...
