Re: Field of Diplomacy: A New World Order

Hi all,

If you still need a player to take the Antigonids, I'll take them.

Thanks for organizing this!

Re: SUGGESTION: Changes To Victory Conditions

These are interesting ideas, but I think the final rout levels are fine as they are. Right now rout levels and victory are easy to understand, and most games end in a victory. They also lend themselves to relatively simple scoring in tournaments and campaigns. As a simulation? Well, you don't need a...

Re: Another setting suggestion: Russian Civil War

Actually, Bolsheviks as counterinsurgents would not even have been that contrarian a narrative in the old USSR, The second half of Tikhii Don, probably the most celebrated novel of the Stalin era, is mostly from the perspective of a White Cossack partisan. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Don_Flows...

Another setting suggestion: Russian Civil War

I'm sure the designers have their own plans on where to take this great system next. But just in case... Some people have suggested Afghanistan during the Soviet occupation, but it occurs to me that Russia 1917-1922 is another setting that would provide a new and exciting atmosphere but without requ...

Re: 500 AD global campaign - Year 512 battles are up

Hi, and thanks for the interest! This campaign has ended, but I hope to start up another one fairly soon, maybe set in 700 AD or 900 AD. I can DM you when we do.

Re: Cavalry and Battle Frontage Solution

This seems like a good proposal. It definitely seems to me that medium/heavy cavalry contributes relatively little to an army.

Re: Classical Antiquity: winners post your results here . . .

Div B Nijis (Seleucids) defeat Trogilus (Carthaginians) 60-2. The Seleucids won the battle of the skirmishers and so the phalanxes were at full strength when they slammed into the Carthaginian line. With a fair amount of luck, they steamrollered the center - but if it had taken one turn longer, the ...

Re: Early Middle Ages: winners post your results here

Div B Nijis (Abbasids) beats rbodleyscott (Franks) 61-43. One of those battles where each side outflanks the other's left and then tries to surround the center. The result was a fight that rotated 180 degrees and shrank inward, like it was being sucked into a vortex. First the Arabs were about 20 po...

Re: Classical Antiquity: winners post your results here . . .

Div B Nijis (Seleucids) defeats nyczar (Romans) 40-15. The phalanxes got lucky and absorbed the legions' charge without any disruptions or push-backs, for once. That, and the Macedonians' medium-foot advantage in rough terrain on one flank, allowed them to win the subsequent heavy infantry shoving m...

Re: 500 AD global campaign - Year 512 battles are up

Thanks for the feedback! I've been thinking about where to go, and I'm leaning on the side of making it slightly more abstract. Specifically, to make turns last four years, to have campaigns but not armies, and to allow multiple provinces to sometimes change hands with a single battle. I know this r...

For all you Saka-philes

Apologies if this counts as OT... I know there are a lot of historical movies out there, but this period/setting rarely gets cinematic treatment and yet tends to feature in a lot of FoG battles. Upcoming Kazakh film on the Cyrus-Tomyris war. Not wild about the depiction of Cyrus as a generic movie b...

Re: Early Middle Ages: winners post your results here

Div B Nijis (Abbasids) defeated SpeedyCM (Rus + Polish) 63-48. The Rus had a tough line of heavy infantry. The Arabs had defensive spear, good for delaying tactics, and a slight cavalry and light troop advantage. The Rus chewed up the Arab center but the Arabs - barely - turned the flanks in time to...

Cunningcairn also reported the same issue on the Tech Support forum, so that's three players with the same issue in one day. I wonder if you all have the same opponent?
Some players may be trying out the suggestion near the top of the forum on how to increase the number of elephant models.

Div B

Seleucids (Nijis) draw Ptolemies (herm) 63-62, Seleucids holding the field.

Old school Successor carnage. Phalanx vs phalanx, elephant vs elephant, lancers and thureophoroi jockeying on the flanks.

(2-2)

Re: Classical Antiquity: winners post your results here . . .

Div B Seleucids (Nijis) beat Indo-Greeks (Morbio) 51-23. Clever maneuvering of the Indian archer line caught the phalanx off balance, and stripped away the elephants and cavalry protecting their flank. The phalangites were forced to launch a disjointed charge through the arrow storm that could have ...
