I posted this suggestion on the North American FoG site. I am a huge fan of FoG, but do think there is an element of unfairness in terrain selection. As long as this element of unfairness exists there will continue to be a predominance of light horse and cavalry armies and a frustrating lack of clos...

Paul, Thanks for stepping in for me. Round Two vs Ethan Zorick and Dan Hazelwood (1st Place) was extremely hard fought. I think we won 10.4 to 9.6. A few more points there and we would have taken the title. It was a great fight. If I have time I'll post a battle report for it. Imitation is flattery....

Turks at Cold Wars- Doubles Round One

I had a great time at Cold Wars this year. This, despite the fact I had to miss the third round because my house was flooding. Luckily, my partner, Matt Iverson, managed to find a replacement for me, and between the three of us we managed a second place finish. Our round one battle report is posted ...

Just double checking. We're playing the 15mm doubles on an 8x5 table, right?

Madaxeman's link (above) takes you to my Teutonic battle reports (Matt H). Next time I run it I will drop the spear and foot crossbow. The only foot I'll take will be light foot archers and handgunners. I like sixes of average drilled knights for this army. It is a very maneuverable knight army. The...

Immobile battlewagons

Was thinking of trying a battle with immobile battlewagons. We were going to let them deploy fifteen inches in and then not allow them to move. How should we cost them out? After all, they don't move that much anyway.

I use Google Sites for all of my battle reports. Piece of cake to use. I post the actual photos to Picasa (Google's photo hosting site). I then link the photos to my wargaming site.

Swiss order of march

Lets say I have a Swiss army of:

4 BG Pike
4 BG Halberd
4 BG Crossbow
1 BG Handgun
1 BG LH

How would you handle order of march? Would you place the pike last in order to see what the other guy has done? Halberd last? Skirmish first? What's your thinking in how you would deploy?

Gozerius hit it on the head. This army is a dog if you are thinking about tournament play.

I'm still painting one. It will look great and I'll use it for campaign games and friendly matches.

I love the wall-of-steel. The nice thing about Medieval Burgundians is that the average knights dismount as superior. This paid off big when I went up against a successor army with a ton of pike. I partially took the army because I figured nobody had ever used it in a tournament before. I also viewe...

Looking for 15mm Swiss (Pre-dagged sleeves)

I'm looking for figures for a Swiss army pre-Burgundian Wars/pre-dagged sleeves.

The Essex figures looked good, but were very static.

Has anyone seen the Old Glory 15mm Swiss? I couldn't find any pics on their site.

Any other recommendations? I'd like to see pics before I buy.

If I recall, the Germans had defensive works prepared along the Roman route of advance. You might want to check that out.

Ahhh.... the price of assuming your very experienced opponent knows what terrain his army can choose. I never looked it up because I used to play Ilkhanids in DBM and felt no need to look up his army composition. You're still ok in my book, Matt. I'll just have to watch you like a hawk for now on. :...

Historicon- all three rounds

Took my Medieval Burgundians to Historicon last weekend. You read that right: Medieval Burgundians The way I looked at the list was as a 100YW English on discount. Loads of cheap knights and longbow without swords. I had 22 stands of undrilled average knights and 20 stands of longbow. There were als...

Essex Free Canton Spearmen

I'd like to paint up some Free Canton spearmen for my Medieval German army. The entire army is Essex, so I would like to find appropriate Essex (or really compatible) figures (15mm). I went through their catalog but couldn't seem to find the right figures. I'm thinking they should be lightly armored...

Loosing, shooting, and firing bows

This has been bugging me for some time. What is the correct way of saying.....

The archers loosed their arrows.
The archers shot their arrows.
The archers fired their arrows.

Aren't shot and fired both gun terms?

I'm certain someone on this forum can steer me the right direction.

IF it turns out (over the long haul) that 19 BG Roman armies are truly unfairly advantaged, couldn't you have a fairly simple solution such as requiring MF to be a minimum of six stands per battle group? Six BG of four stands would drop to four BG of six stands. It takes two highly maneuverable unit...
