Re: 500 AD global campaign - Year 508 battles are up

Guys, I think I'll have to pull out of this campaign for a while. I'm busy with work and it's only going to get worse from here on out. On top of that, a family member is ill and in hospital. My mind just isn't in the game at the moment, and it's probably best for everyone if I withdraw from the cam...

Re: Rare Battle Result

Hmm...

I think you lose if it's open battle against the AI. If you're fighting a rearguard, I think it favours you. But I'm not sure.

I'd imagine it's whoever has more of their army left that wins in multiplayer.

Re: Ludendorf's Christmas Time Ordeal

Alright! I'm an utter noob at this game, with about ten battles so far. I'd like to try multiplayer out. This will be my first multiplayer battle. https://i.imgur.com/VUJpjXQ.jpg I'm giving myself quite a fat advantage, due to, again, being a noob. I've issued the challenge. Password for it is "fin...

Re: Ludendorf's Christmas Time Ordeal

Thank you sIg3b for your excellent coverage of the battle. :D It's worth mentioning here that I had a disproportionate share of the luck in this battle. Not just one but several of my units stood firm for multiple turns against far better quality units; this was particularly remarkable of irregulars...

Re: Things we learned the hard way.

Would you ignore just under five hundred extremely angry looking guys wearing towels instead of armour and extremely nasty looking swords? Hovering just within sprinting distance of you? While you are wearing linen armour and armed with what amounts at short range to a giant washing pole? :p

Re: Battle Suggestions for a Noob?

Gauls or Galatians vs Macedons can be a good one. Play first as Gaul, then as Macedon. It'll teach you how to use warbands, phalanxes, lancer and non-lancer cavalry, skirmishers (mounted and otherwise, in small numbers and in large) and medium foot. I think some of the Macedonian lists have elephant...

I'm still looking for an opponent for Vandals vs Gepids if anyone is up for that. :)

Re: Ludendorf's Christmas Time Ordeal

If I got the chance to do this again, I would possibly try and draw back my right flank here to get away from those phalangites. On the other hand, taking the pressure off like that could have allowed sIg3b to get his battle line fully in order and bring the whole force round to crush me. I thought ...

Re: Ludendorf's Christmas Time Ordeal

Part 2. Thrace vs Rome Roman Side.jpg My initial plan in this battle was simple. Ignore the mountain, ignore the forest, send the heavy units through the narrow pass and use the superior quality of my soldiers to break through and out into the open. For this, I drew up in a formation very similar to...

Re: Ludendorf's Christmas Time Ordeal

Morbio issued me a challenge in the form of a mirror match between Thrace (350-241 BC) and Rome (340-281 BC). The result was a draw! The Thracians take two drubbings as the Romans triumph in both matches, fighting off hordes of Thracian spearmen and peltasts and emerging, while hardly unscathed, a g...

Re: Ludendorf's Christmas Time Ordeal

I have issued a Password challenge for you. Will send the Password to your Inbox. I get to play my favourite army, Seleucids, versus their most feared enemy, ATREOPATENE! Equal pts, but in the Steppe, without hills, it should be an uphill battle for you. :) Challenge accepted! I await you on the pl...

Ludendorf's Christmas Time Ordeal

Gulp.jpg Hi everyone. I thought I'd try something a bit different. Christmas time is upon us, the tourney squares have emptied, and I'm eager to get some practice in at this game while things are quieter... but I can't quite figure out where to start. So, I figured that I'd offer myself up in the n...

Re: How to use cavalry?

The formation I know best for my cavalry (without going into cavalry-infantry formations) is during a weighted flank/refused flank situation. This is where I have placed my strongest infantry units on the flank closest to the enemy (the side I want to make contact with first) and my weakest infantry...

Re: 500 AD global campaign - Year 508 battles are up

Just to update, my Saxonea battle vs rexhurley is near completion. I have yet to start Vandals vs Gepids, I still need an opponent for that.

EDIT: The Romano-British triumph in Saxonea 45-13%. The pretender has been vanquished... hopefully for good this time.

This is just a display issue caused by continuing with v1.5.3 a game started with v1.4.7.

It should not affect gameplay in any way.

It won't affect games started with v1.5.3.
Thanks. Just reporting in. :)

Weird missing information.

This was in multiplayer. If you look at the attached screenshot, you'll see 'missing' in place of information about the general's name. This applied to both generals I chacked. Might be something to do with 'son of x', as in 'Bleda son of (father)'.

Re: My First Game on Legate: Syracuse vs. Carthage

Nice report. I particularly liked the unit of hapless Carthaginian cavalry who got sandwiched between no less than three units of infantry near the end there! If you like sandwiched Cavalry, you will love this one (Nicator Campaign): The Bactrian Cavalry caught diagonally between the Elephants is i...
