Re: LCv Ext Line Inf Cover

I'd be happy for this tactic to used against me.

Two drilled guard light cavalry units with four veteran infantry with attachments behind is getting close to 400 points on a narrow frontage.

Lots of exposed flanks and other troops of lower value to pick on.

Re: NZ NatCon - Easter 2018

The "new" 1812 Russian Guards list is a bit different from the current one. It allows some Light Infantry but no regular army artillery. I decided to try it out despite it being very similar to the troops I selected for the SuperNapoleonics Tournament in Victoria last year. Both lists had ...

Natcon 2018

Natcon 2018 Battle report Natcon was held at the Hamilton Cosmopolitan Club. This is a huge venue within 5 minutes of central Hamilton. It provided two bars, a “bistro” serving very well priced pub food, a very large pool room with at least six tables. Unfortunately for Blues supporters the club al...

Re: 4th Victorian FOG N Championships

So to determine whether or not Guard cavalry are pointed appropriately a comparative assessment would be useful. Superior Veteran Shock Heavy Line Cavalry have been quoted. How to they compare to a Guard Cavalry unit? Here is a couple of relevant comparisons. More would help but I'd better do some w...

Re: 4th Victorian FOG N Championships

I tend to agree with Kit. More than gut instinct and frustration should be employed to determine if the rules need to be changed. Guard cavalry are hard to deal with given their capacity to absorb hits. They also provide an advantage in that they allow the concentration of a lot of force at a single...

Re: 2017 Victorian FoGN Napoleonics Tournament Report

Thanks for the feedback Marty. Guard rerolls Guard are pretty good without rerolls but I enjoy the added flavour of their impact in combat/melee/close range firefights although not so much when I’m on the receiving end of it. Infantry intercepted by cavalry The “flaw” I refer to is that infantry int...

Re: 2017 Victorian FoGN Napoleonics Tournament Report

And now for Part Two Game Four: Mike (Surf) Haycock - Spanish 1793-1795 Mike had a very large unreformed Spanish army. I’m not sure of the complete make up but it summed to 32 ACV with 16 units, 5 more than me. This included a couple of Veterans with artillery attachments, two or three units of Poo...

Re: NICON 2017 battle report

I'm not sure that any change is needed to horse artillery attachments to cavalry units. Despite feeling a little undone by the luck of the Scots Greys I could have avoided the situation with some more conservative play and better deployment. The artillery attachments weren't the real issue. Nor do I...

Re: NICON 2017 battle report

Checking my post from last years NICON I see I was undone on that occasion by the Scots Greys then as well. "One unit of my Austrian shock cavalry slid to the left to line up his impetuous lights. Not a good move as whilst they wavered them when charged they got wavered in return as he manoeuvr...

NICON 2017 battle report

NICON FoGN tournament June 2017 Had a good weekend at NICON with four games against strong opponents. Came a creditable third. FoGN 2 worked well with only a few wrinkles identified which age has led me to forget. Army list Russian Infantry Corps 1813-1814 ACV 22 Exceptional Corps Commander Compete...

Re: Frontal Assault going backwards

Does this also mean artillery can't deploy? That would appear a bit odd. Certainly I can understand the restriction balancing the benefits for other troops but not artillery.

I'd give large units an extra dice. They should have an advantage as they cost 50% more.

Re: FoGN v2 Firing out of Buildings

The simplification in many respects is good. However, large artillery units are unfairly penalised when shooting at buildings, in particular large heavy units. A small unit of medium artillery for 40 points gets 4 shots at a building rising to 5 with an attachment. A large heavy unit for 72 points o...

Re: FOG N 2nd Edition - it's back!

Hi Brett. You are absolutely correct in your assessment of the superiority of large units versus small in their ability to absorb medium range fire. I haven't done the maths but I think you'll find that two small units have a similar advantage over one large unit that one large unit has over a singl...

Re: FOG N 2nd Edition - it's back!

I not that advantages of large units quoted as being legion although I don't see any demons to cast out. What are their advantages in the context of the notes I presented above? They do allow concentration of force as any higher quality unit does e.g. Shock Cavalry and Guard etc. However, like any q...

Re: FOG N 2nd Edition - it's back!

I don't think artillery are too cheap. I haven't felt that they dominate the game too much. They should dominate to some degree. We have named the period Napoleonics and the eponymous gentleman favoured artillery. It should therefore be suitable powerful. 40 points of artillery can control/dominate ...
