Re: Macedonian phalanx?

I take it you're playing the DLC campaign. In the original campaign, all of Alexander's successor states start with access to them. Not sure about getting them in the DLC scenario, though.

EDIT: Grammar.

Re: Question: Is there any point on having a 0-0 general?

That's rather vague. It's possible that it's referring to playing out battles in FOG2, I am not as familiar with the mechanics there, but in FOGE combat resolution I'm pretty sure it makes no difference.

Re: Field of Diplomacy: Winds of Change

I've just resigned from the game. Apologies, but after pouring a pretty ridiculous number of hours into this match over the last six months, I just don't have the patience left to fight an entire world war to try to potentially bring it to the finish. I'll clear the time on my schedule to move onto ...

Re: Question: Is there any point on having a 0-0 general?

Even 0-0's give a bonus to siege rolls, and having a general is required to use the Retaliate order. If you have the Persia DLC some regional decisions related to armies only work on armies with generals. If you're fighting against an army which has a General and you don't, your troops suffer a pena...

Re: Tar too sticky to transport?

Only "need" goods get imported, not "bonus" goods. In order to get the bonus, the good has to be either produced, or imported by a structure that "needs" it, within an adjacent region.

Re: What is extra fatigue margin?

Units can evade damage when losing a duel if their movement speed is higher than the opponent's. This is separate from the extra fatigue margin. I think it's 1 damage negated per 2 points of speed difference or something like that, not sure about the exact formula.

Re: Royal Treasure

You get a notification in your capitol when money gets stored in the treasure, and that will upgrade the building into a form that should (as I understand it) give money when disassembled.

It means that they'll still inflict a point of Effectiveness damage on the opposing unit in duels when they lose the duel, provided they lose by within the indicated margin.

Re: Does a Docked Fleet Help Defend the Settlement?

No, fleets can't engage in land combat in this game, even though they historically did a good portion of their fighting through the crews engaging in missile and hand-to-hand boarding combat with equipment similar to land forces. Putting them in port just keeps them safe from attacks by enemy naval ...

Re: Bug (?) - Mercenary hoplite manpower upkeep

By default, each faction gets a flat upkeep reduction for 10 of their units. Most likely, your Mercenary Hoplite replaced an unit that costs less money, but has a manpower cost among that 10, causing your manpower expenditure to increase.

Re: Sarmatian upkeep

One of the patches changed the free upkeep into a flat decrease to the upkeep cost of each affected unit, so it doesn't necessarily cover the entire cost if an unit is expensive to maintain.

You can bribe whoever owns the territory until they like you enough to sell it to you, then raise an unit there. Or buy a suitable staging region nearby if the territory is not under anybody's control.

Re: How complex is this?

I don't recall ever hearing about slave *micromanagement* being an issue. The main thing people have been complaining about as regards to slaves is their capitol filling up with excessive amounts of unruly slaves from conquests, which can happen, especially if you don't have slave markets in other r...

Re: How complex is this?

It's not as complex as very hardcore games that go really deep into minute simulation like the Victoria or Gary Grigsby's War in the X series, but I rate it as more complex than the Europa Universalis, Total War (as regards to the strategy layer) and most likely Civilization series (at least the one...

Re: Amphibious attack question

You can keep the fleet and army as separate stacks, but move them together. The warships will cover the transports as long as they're in the same sea region when combat occurs. The way movement in the game works is that every stack expends 1 MP, moves if it has expended enough MP to get to the next ...

According to the data in Structures.csv and Terrain.csv, the unbreached defense bonus is +2 for palisades, +3 for city walls and solid walls, +4 for large walls and +5 for massive walls. Unbreached frontage for them is 6. For breached walls, it's +1 defense and 5 frontage for palisades, +2 defense f...

Re: Cultural Building Giving Negative Culture

The Oration Tribune gives culture output as a bonus from marble. The Courthouse gives no culture output, it gives a decadence reduction instead. Thus, when an Oration Tribune in a region with marble bonus access is upgraded, culture output decreases. This does certainly make the Courthouse less attr...

The number of units required to fill out the combat width is 28 for plains and steppes and 32 for deserts (half support units, and 4 cavalry for plains, 6 for steppes, 8 for deserts). You can check the terrain width by hovering over the leftmost icon in the top bar of the region window (although it ...
