Square bases for stans in a BG

Any chance we could have some info on basing and scale early on?.
I have been using 30m x 30mm for 15mm figure for infantry and cavalry. I found square bases very useful in providing formations of line and column.

FoG and Napoleon

We are considering a GAME system that works with 10 to 20 BGs.
We need to match the system to that level of engagment or find a way to increase the number of units.

Target date for the release of FoGR & army lists

Is there a projected release date?
I ask so that conventions and competitions can plan for the launch.
Rampage, Cold Wars or IWF would need some notice to allow for the event.

How many points?

For the usual 6x4 playing with 25mm how many points should be used for an open game?
Would 600 points work?
Is that true for 15mm as well?

To play and test

You need an army, the rules and an OPPONENT with the same.

Figures

We are players of games with figures.
Our games must look right and play well to stand any chance of being taken up by wargaming as a whole.

Hussars and pancerni

I believe that hussars and pancerni were in the same Battle Group.

Figures for armies.

Given most "Early modern" wargamers use DBR then that will be the bases used for beta testing.
Units in FoG are in 4 or 6 stands per BG some thing to remember when painting or tidying up troops.

Which nations had the best cavalry?

George Gush had the Poles with their multiweapon role.

In history, the Danes and Finns were well respected as were French and German cavalry on occassions.
(The ECW Royalist were always at best poor.)

I have troops based for King of the Battlefield, HOtH and WRG2nd.

If beta testing is near, what base sizes should be used for the testing?

Should beta testers be in groups?
That is two or three players working to refine aspects of the rules.

(Even if they say they come from Yorkshire)

Surely the most important quality for a tester is an opponent!

Would a "bolt on" to FoG for the magic work? That way the authors would have the basic combat in place and could concentrate on the arcane aspect more.

When did the battalion guns start to appear on the battlefields ?
I thought it was only on XVIII century which is out of the Renaissance period.

No Swedes started using battion guns from mid 1600s.

Okay so use DBR basing. But what about battalion guns, surely they need to be on the same base size as the musketeers?

The end of the FoGR period is more to do with firing techniques like volley fire and shooting by company.
The "establishment" of regiments is another distinct break point.
