Re: Winter Tournament - 2020

Very good points...I have done fairly well in every tournament game but in this one have not achieved the margin of victory required to get into the top 10. That this is the case is as much a testament to the quality of my opponents as anything. So I would like to believe that a win/lose/draw format...

Re: Winter Tournament - 2020

Understandable. You could perhaps include a link to the tournament forum for additional details. And fwiw while I do not much enjoy solo games I have bought an expansion for each tournament I have played in to show my appreciation for the time and effort you put into something that probably does not...

Re: Winter Tournament - 2020

I love the little nuances but wish this would have been in the briefing (which is in a sense the documentation for how VPs are awarded and how any variants on game-play will actually work) I have long been an devotee of strategic warfare and was excited to see it represented somewhat with the oil pr...

Re: Winter Tournament - 2020

That's helpful. I thought damage would slow down production but it is apparently only destruction that will do that. In the future it would be kind of cool if they were recoded somehow as infrastructure so could be repaired or even rebuilt. FYI I discovered that the oil production sites are apparent...

Re: Winter Tournament - 2020

FYI I discovered that the oil production sites are apparently not considered infrastructure and cannot be repaired by engineers or Seabees. In the future it would be nice if these new (and cool) variants were accompanied by rules on how they work. (it is a mystery how a "production target" is met, w...

Re: Erik's Multiplayer scenarios

Interesting Karis. FWIW anyone else reading the scenario has pretty much everything you could ask for in recreating the formidable Japanese defenses and the fanaticism of the defenders. (ex: for some reason no Lunge Miner AT units were allowed) I hope in the not-too-distant future other OBs are give...

Re: Erik's Multiplayer scenarios

Any infantry unit that begins a turn adjacent to a cave opening can move to adjacent to any other cave opening and then attack adjacent enemy units. I have found them extremely valuable as a way to shift resources in a way that gets around US air superiority (hello Ho Chi Minh Trail), pull beaten up...

Re: Erik's Multiplayer scenarios

Hey Erik,

Am 20 turns in to Okinawa and my beleagured Japanese have been unable to use tunnel movement for several turns now even though only a handful of openings have been destroyed. Their ability to shift troops via the tunnels felt like my only hope for lasting 68 turns :-\

Re: Invasion Operations Tournament

One thing I really liked was the theme, though it doesn't seem to have carried over into the (otherwise great) third scenario. Alas I do not detect a theme in the next tournament (which has not precluded my signing up) Re future themes would love to see a "Brittania Stands Alone" tournament that sta...

"unreliable" vehicles won't recover

In the Karjalan tournament scenario it seemed like my KV1 would not recover efficiency even if it did nothing and was unmolested. Is anyone else experiencing issues with "unreliable" equipment like the KV1 or am I hallucinating again? :-)

Don't think I will ever buy anything unreliable again...

Congratulations Shards, Cagi961 and Jheim

for their finishes in the Invasion Operations tournament. I suspect I am the only one who noticed that Shards emerged as champion by a single point...wow and some condolences to Cagi961. It is interesting to see that 40 points separated the top 7 finishers and that Chema_cagi got his revenge on Cele...

Re: Tournament Rules - Abandoning Units

The issue I have with destruction points is that it incentivizes going for broke to destroy enemy units even if it means losing your own. Yes my opponent gets extra VP but who knows where they will end up in the standings. If points are deducted for having units destroyed however one might handle th...

Re: Invasion Operations Tournament

I believe Judicious Use of Disband is an advanced elective at OOB University...maybe even part of the graduate school I got my butt kicked in the third scenario but it was so much fun. Never learned so much in 15 turns. I have tried not to misuse the disband function, only using it when I really nee...

Re: Invasion Operations Tournament

Perhaps someday there will be a mechanism for giving your opponent a basic "sportsmanship" score. A tournament that only allowed players of a certain average score or higher would seemingly reduce the risk of this sort of thing (luckily I drew two wonderful opponents in AlexBanet and chema_cagi)

Re: Invasion Operations Tournament

My aircraft comment was part of a broader lesson Wake Island taught me RP management. I wonder how many US players made the mistake I made of concluding at the half-way point that they wouldn't run out of RP until maybe the very end. I grossly underestimated what the 4th wave of Japanese reinforceme...

Very sad, though I would rather see OOB continue for Windows only than disappear altogether.

Re: Invasion Operations Tournament

Chema is a skilled and relentless tactician who despite my best efforts* conquered Wake Island. He would be a fitting champion.

*note to self: don't waste RPs on aircraft repair
