Re: SHOOTING

Someone brought up the problem earlier about unprotected MF bow being out shot by LF. This ofcourse makes unprotected MF bow almost unusable. Easy solution, is that the + factor for shooting at unprotected doesnt count for LF shooting " unprotected HF or MF shot at by at all except LF" or something ...

Re: SHOOTING

So at V1 the Sparabara/ Immortals are dogmeat, at V2 they should win impact but even if the hoplites disorder will lose the melee. At v3 they have a very small edge in impact, however, if they do win and the hoplites disorder they will be 50/50 in the melee. I agree which is why we need to be very ...

Re: SHOOTING

There are 2 approaches we could take: 1) Reduce the effect of support shooting by giving it a -POA (as per V1) However, this still leaves the Sparabara at an advantage at impact . 2) Reduce the impact POA and not leave the support shooting alone. This makes impact evens for protected hoplites and s...

Re: SHOOTING

The other option is leaving it as v2 but adding
Support shooting by MF with Xbow, bow or bow* get a -POA if their front rank has an impact weapon or impact factor. (even if the weapon doesn't give them a POA against the current enemy - eg HW against mounted)

Re: COMBAT

Spearmen both def and off need to be looked at,but I aren't sure that the 3 third rank bonus works for them.
Another mechanism needs to be considered

Re: MOVEMENT

I see your point Terry, what about giving them a VMD 4
They move quickly outside of 6 mu with 4 mu
3mu inside of 6 ( including charging unless all opponents evade or rout, then VMD 4 mu ) that then doesn't stuff up shooting ranges

Re: COMBAT

I think their are some very good ideas here :) they have my vote
The only thing I would add is that irregular MF or HF with only L/S or L/S, sword should have the third rank bonus the same as irregular impact foot.

Re: MOVEMENT

What about HF move 4 mu when outside of 6mu but 3mu within (including charge distance ) and a vmd of 3mu + score 1,2 -2 and 5,6+2

Re: SHOOTING

I have been looking with interest at the shooting suggestions and they look to severely hamper crossbows (especially eastern armies) turning their armies into defensive armies, which is unhistorical. Also the suggestions look fiddley with individual differences between weapons. I can see what is try...

Re: FOGAM3

Hi Terry The FOG series are a great set of rules glad your looking at AM if I may so bold as to suggest some things to look at Eastern elephant armies elephants should shoot 1 die as heavy chariots Western elephants in small numbers have a attachment FOG N style Every army should have the ability to...

Re: The wholly unofficial points revision sticky …

A different option, apply the higher values for Superior/Elite and the lower ones for Average/Poor. Makes the lesser troops more attractive while reducing the chance of being swamped by even more superior types: Cunning 8) This idea has a lot of Merritt and has my vote On the impact mounted idea do...

I also agree with Nik’s suggestions
One thing has been left out and that is should impact mounted be 3 points?

Re: Are Elephants viable in V2?

Say the army had 12 elephant models and 8 other BGs. If the elephants are in 2 base BGs losing them all would be 12 ot of 14 AP to break the army and easy to pick up the remaining 2 AP when the elephants have gone. If the elephants are in 4 base BGs losing them all would be 6 AP lost out of 11, so ...

Re: Are Elephants viable in V2?

Practically speaking elephants are not terribly different form Superior Knights and they are not over-powering in 4s (or 6s!). I think this is one where the early play testing showed and issue that in retrospect just isn't that big a deal. That is the conclusion I have come to, for 25 points are th...

Re: Are Elephants viable in V2?

I must admit I have not worked out the probabilities, but at a quick glance they looked about 50-50 taking in to account the impact shooting. In the 3 games I had (third one was against Kushan elephants) the Chinese infantry won all 3, Lucky dice :D. Although all games were played using the ipad ver...

Re: Are Elephants viable in V2?

Yes agreed that the Heavy weapon/ x bow is the most interesting combat and yes that combination of foot is probably the most efficient foot type V elephants. One thing I did not point out was the troop cost Chinese foot 76, elephants 100, 24 points difference. I think the main point is that for east...

Re: Are Elephants viable in V2?

I know their has been a lot of discussion on the cost effectiveness of elephants and the reasons why they can only be in units of two elements, however I wanted to see for myself and prove or disprove this. I need to point out now that this is squarely aimed at eastern elephants which I think most if...
