Re: Proposals summary for playtesting

Discussion seems to have died here... are we waiting for some event results?

Re: Not a request for change/amendment, but worth debating?

I realise it's a bit late to do anything about it now, in terms of amendments or whatever, but - just humour me here - why do we have to tell an opponent the morale level of our units when we deploy? Troop type, weaponry, and even armour, can be determined visually as ranges decrease, but why shoul...

Re: Proposals summary for playtesting
Cavalry cost does seem to be a consistent theme - I'm not totally surprised since they are, on the whole, beneficiaries of a number of suggested points reductions; their base costs and some capabilities that are common to Cavalry.
Too bad nobody predicted that might hap...

Re: Why are we ruining my favourite set of rules

To be fair to Don these changes, apart from the artillery rule change do appear to be driven by competition concerns." Funny, I've been partaking in the discussions on them for months, arguing the pro-side on a lot of them, and I have never even played in a FOG-R competition. This rule set has been...

Re: Cavalry - a package of proposals

But it's purely a fix to address non historical match-ups! Why? If the mounted bow range is also reduced to 3" then the only reason to turn, move and turn back is to get out of short range and yet still get shot! If the P&S close to under 1" then a fancy manoevre will still be in short range. P&S w...

Re: Why are we ruining my favourite set of rules

However there are some "fixes" that are being applied to issues that were not broken purely because they make the "open list" better I'm not sure how you get this idea. Just about every change on the list (*) exists largely because of a -perceived- issue with a historical interaction. Including the...

Re: Proposals summary for playtesting

This link should (hopefully) take you to a document that has all the proposed changes. OK, so maybe I missed you changing your mind on the subject, but: Remove +4 points cost for Swedish brigades. Very interesting. Also, under the troops re-classified as horse: Duty and Glory Late Polish and Lithua...

Re: Points Values - the whole damn lot

To me Impact/Pistol/Hvy Lance are pretty much the same. In the open Impact beats Pistol Pistol beats Hvy Lance Hvy Lance beats Impact Impact Mtd. is also much rarer than the other two. Also, in-period, there are VERY few impact mounted in existence at the same time as the Heavy Lancers. Rock, Paper...

Re: Points Values - the whole damn lot

It would - one reason I'm wanting feedback sooner rather than later :D Messing with the point cost of the Pistol/Pistol types somewhat overhauls my perception of the work that has been done so far... my own paradigm had the horse pistol/pistol costed and functioning properly, and we were adjusting ...

Re: Points Values - the whole damn lot

Suggestions? I'd say the biggest problem with the bowmen is that there is no "winning tactic" for the Pike and Shot in this matchup. In a shootout the latter get outshot, and their advantage in impact/melee is pretty miniscule; I would expect a formation including a body of decent quality pikemen t...

Re: Play Test

I am having some difficulty with the commanded shot references in Ben's report. In the rep[ort Ben talks about the CS being on one file and giving it an extra dice. He goes on that as that file was an overlap they only gave it one dice as an overlap. Yet in the discussion on "Commanded Shot" Nik sa...

Re: Better Armour - proposal (updated)

So, ok Later LXIV. Again what armies did these tend to fight against. Dutch/Spanish/later German states. In period lists as written in Duty and glory, the French mounted looks far superior taken as a whole compared to any of those lists. The thing is we tend to play pointed games to equalise things...

Re: Updates - where we are at

I would concur that more playtesting is generally a good thing. Though I am skeptical how much can actually happen... we are talking about an errata to an effectively out-of-print rule set, not a new product... if you schedule 6 months of playtest games, is anybody going to be left to care by the ti...

Re: Better Armour - proposal (updated)

Also be assured that the "it ain't broke, don't fix it" side of this is being properly considered. If it wasn't broke, it wouldn't have been identified as an issue to address on day 1. I think the questions that need to be answered are: 1. Is it "broke" badly enough that it is worth fixing? 2. Is t...

Re: Better Armour - proposal (updated)

If the basis for looking at the armour rule is that there was a long-term trend away from armour in the period covered by the rules which combined with the way Armour works as a game mechanic makes in-game interactions between Early and Later armies play out in a way that feels odd, that could just...

Re: Better Armour - proposal (updated)

There is the simple answer of letting pistol to be treated like other shot weapons. Thus a pistol armed mounted unit would never be out armoured. This "simple" answer is worse than doing nothing at all, IMO. Armor goes from being a "no-brainer" purchase to being completely pointless for most of the...

Re: Updates - where we are at

Without any modifiers, 60% of failed cohesion tests will contain a 1. The other interesting fact about re-rolling 1s is that the chance of double dropping is almost 3 times as likely if you don't re-roll. Right. 15 out of 36 possible rolls will be less than 7 (41.67%). 9 of those 15 (60%) will cont...

Re: Dragoons - proposal

Hi, Any comments on Dragoons from any test games. Comments from our club so far seem to suggest that they have become so dependent on terrain that they have become emasculated and are being dropped from army lists. If people have a light horse option they are now in front of Dragoons which is a sha...

Re: Dragoons - proposal

I think definitely their extra mobility up to 6" is worth a point. I am very against reducing dragoons points as I still think they are useful. They were far too powerful before. "Powerful" is probably not the right word (in and of themselves, they didn't dominate the tabletop)... Too "flexible"/ "...

Re: Points Values - the whole damn lot

So apart from tweaking the mounted costs I take it from the silence here that people are broadly OK with the current points suggestion. Mounted costs is the majority of the suggestion. Which tweaks are we still considering... the cavalry proposal? Also, if the bow issue gets promoted to a proposal,...
