Re: Problems with movement trays...

So is there a way a contiguous line of, say, 6 8-base pike units can wheel individually?

Problems with movement trays...

I like using pike armies and use some nifty magnetised movement trays that allow 8 or sometimes 12 base units to move around so much more easily. However, I came across a problem with them during one of my recent Britcon games. After deployment my opponent had a useful overlap on my line of pikes. I...

Re: Britcon 2019 - What would you like to do?

Wow! After the high proportion of Roman armies at Devizes it looks like there's been a lot of second guessing the same would happen at Britcon - including by myself. Never seen so many elephant/pike armies before! I'm not opening a book on it but I think this might play into the hands of my fellow M...

Manchester?

For anyone in the Greater Manchester area interested in ancients/medieval, the Manchester Area Wargames Society (MAWS) has a vibrant and active FOG-AM section.

There's an annual competition, with a prize draw plus regular non-comp games.

PM me for details.

Re: Warfare 2019

I'm on the reserve list so, just in case, will need to get quite a bit of painting done for this, for me, unusual period. However, I applaud this: Players must supply their own terrain pieces. These must be to an acceptable standard, and umpires will have the discretion to remove unsightly items. We...

Re: Rome -- June 2019

Thanks David. With so many elephants was he gambling on facing mounted or Romans? If so, he wasn't far wrong.

Nice touch to see dice supplied by the organisers, although it obviously didn't help you.

Re: Info sources...

I picked up the bit about a Kiel not disrupting from a flank charge from one of Tim's battle reports.

However, my copies of the rules and army lists haven't arrived yet so I'm sort of stumbling in the dark. Can any army form a Kiel or is there a limitation?

Info sources...

Looking for something different, and inspired by some recent battle reports by the often (but not always!) amusing Tim Porter, I've decided to have a go at FoG-R; specifically ECW (so I'm unlikely to be entering any comps!). I'm a keen FOG-AM player, so have some idea on how the rules work and have ...

Re: MAWS - Medieval Club Competition Final

No problem. Even breaking the poor troops earlier and crashing into the other poor ones to them wouldn't have helped. The crucial mistake was not charging your fragmented foot on the right. It cost me at least three units and, ultimately, the game. Oh woe is me! 😮

Re: MAWS - Medieval Club Competition Final

You're right about not charging the Swedes on my extreme right being the crucial moment (a big mistake!). It should have saved me a couple of units and lost you at least one, and that might have turned the game round. Lesson hopefully learned! Incidentally, you defined the poor troops as light spear...

Re: Polearms

.Knights are now way too expensive. Don't think I'd worry about them with the preponderance of foot now. Unless I was a bow cavalry army Polearms and 3 dice on impact have contributed to the virtual disappearance of lancer armies such as Bosporan, etc. The typical 4-base unit is much more likely to...
